    rarpicharpard:

How can I enter a tournament with a 70 stroke average, shoot 71 and my average drop to 69.88? The reverse also, how can I shoot a 77 and my average not go up?

I asked almost the same question:

It's all based on a set number of rounds.  Then from that set of rounds they choose a set number of the best rounds.

So lets say they pick your most recent 15 rounds and of those rounds they choose the 10 best to figure your average.  As you play more ranked rounds,  the scale of your most recent rounds slides along as does the 10 best rounds from the 15.  Natural progression should get rid of the highest BEST score the more you play.

So the 37's that were probably in your recent best are now dropping off the back of the list and the 34's and 33's you most recently shot are dropping your average.  Replacing a 74 or 78(off the backside) with a 71  a 66 and a 68 in the mix will bring it down and prevent that 77 from even registering..
