I started a thread on the Nike vs the G12-D balls with the link above.

I have tried the SD, the S, & the Nike the last few days. The stopping backspin was the only advantage I noticed with these other balls compared to the G12-D.

I putt differently than most anybody else so my way of putting fits the G12-D perfectly.

After shooting 3 under on the Kiawah back nine, I have just come to the conclusion that the G12-D balls are the best balls I have played with.

To me, the meter matches up with the distance to the hole on the green much better than any other ball. The Nike ball was putting nothing but straight fastballs. This meant that even though I hit the ball dead center of the cup, it flew away to the left or right when I was used to getting it in with the G12-Ds.. I even had a ball jump up and then go in the hole. I was using the exact distance on a flat green as by the meter on the putt.

Even though the Nike did give a better stop on the green and I did get a bit more distance, the true test was on the green, and, for me, the meter was just not matching up with the speed of the ball.......and the green is where the birdies and eagles are, not on the fairway & not on the approach.

The S ball was the best of the other three. The faster meter speed may have been the deal killer with me on this ball. This effected the ball too much on the putt. I am used to stopping the meter exactly where I want it. I was missing putts by a fraction with the S balls.

The S ball might match up with some Nike G-20 clubs or some other clubs that give better backspin than my Ping G-10s.

So my opinion of the G12-D stands. 64 credits and you have a ball that will consistently give you birdies that you are looking for.....and the occasional eagle.

This ball might work doubly well with the G-20 clubs.

     Give um a try.

450 credits for Nike balls......give me a break!

Interesting post. How much better were the Nike's at stopping? This seems a big problem when the fairways are so long and using a low numbered iron to reach the green. .

    Thanks

    Rxbk,

I couldn't tell you that it made that much difference compared to the S balls as far as the backspin goes. They seemed the same to me. The slower meter speed is the only drawback to the S balls. The meter speed on the S balls was not slower compared to the Ds. Of course the D balls do not have the backspin of the S or Nike balls.

The spin is what I likes about the S & Nike. The Nike had a slower meter speed where the S was true to the club for meter speed.

I have found the it is really important to have that slower meter speed on the green for putting.

I rarely position the shooting point to offset green resistance. I do this only if the green is really going fast because of high slopes or mounds on the green. I just stop the meter where I think I need to stop it to make a putt. So, the ball making the the meter slower is key for me.

I took in a putting tutorial long after I started playing. I use a Rosa putter and just got used to stopping the meter where I think I need to when figuring out the resistance of the speed of the lines going left or right.. I think this is the best way but the tutorial says otherwise. Nobody is right or wrong, it is just if you can make some birdies or the occasional eagle that matters most.

This D ball, for the price of credits, is the only ball that I want to use now. If I get the Ping G-20s, it will not make that much of a difference ....maybe..... I still will use the Rosa putter. I do OK with the Ping G-10s that I have.

If anyone can tell me that other irons will give better spin with the same meter speed, I will listen and rent them.

I have read the the G-20s are quirky. Who knows? I have to try them to agree or disagree.

I hope this post helps others to get the 64 credit ball that I am liking a lot. It is all about making under par and you can do it with this ball without breaking the bank while trying to have fun.

Also, I just can't get myself to fork over 450 credits every other day. That is nuts. If you enjoy playing, use these D balls.

One last thing on these G12-D balls. They take some getting used to if you are using other balls. In the last week, I have tried several different balls to see if this D ball is the best choice for me. I also wanted to know if backspin would help my games.

All in all, trying these different balls screwed with my game. I am gradually getting back in the grove again.

Trying to adjust to these other balls seems to have messed with my timing and my estimating on putts. So, if you are just using these D balls for the first time, give them about three packs or nine balls to get a good chance for you to get a grove with this ball.

I hit the ball exactly the distance I should it  the ball with a left to right wind. For shooting into the wind, subtract about half of that wind speed to add to your strength on the meter for the ball to carry. If the ball is slightly coming at you at an angle, only adjust about 25% of that. Example; it the wind is coming at a slight angle towards you at 16mph, give an extra for our five yards to the meter.. It is better to be a little short than to over shoot.

Good luck and have fun everybody!

It's nice to hear of someone putting exactly the way I putt,I stop the meter early or late depending on the line and I play a lot so I visualise the break and know pretty much when to click. They don't alway,s go in but usualy come close. As for the balls I've been using G-13 S but I will give the G-12 a try. Thanks

Oh by the way I'm still putting with my beginner putter;I love it.

Just for the record and to make the letters and numbers of the balls make more sense... it is not G-12 as in twelve.  It's G.I. as in Game Improvement... version 2.  Followed by a dash and then D or S, for Distance or Spin.  For instance: GI2-D.

    Doublemochochaman,

That makes sense because this D ball I am talking about here does had good distance. I think the Nike was a bit better but then you end up overshooting a green because that extra distance is not true to the meter for that club.

I realized you can adjust for that over time.... but..... I can only see so far where that extra distance is giving me any advantage that this 12-D ball has. ....except for two holes I can think of.

So, is it worth 450 credits to be able to drive to any green in two on a par 5? Also, I can think of one hole that is a par 4 where this ball would be helpful but again, 450 credits useful????

    senec,

I liked the starter putter too. You have to try the Rosa though. I tried two other putters...the anser & the next grade up from the starter. They were awful. I went back to the starter putter.

The Rosa is more forgiving on an arching shot. I bet you would be awesome with the Rosa.

take care, have some fun.......the Rosa ain't that expensive.....The Rosa costs less than two packs of Nike balls!

450 credits for 3 balls is so out of whack! This Rosa example is just a perfect example of why the Nike balls are too out of whack for the enjoyment of the game it's laughable.

Moon... the longer, more expensive balls are useful when you play from the Championship tees.  Although we're both Masters I mostly play practice rounds and they're all from the Championship tees, not the Hard tees assigned to me when I play a ranked round.  So there's a value in that extra expense.

Just as an added piece of interest I am a legend and have started using the GI2SD2 legend balls and I am not that far behind the nike balls ok they don't have the spin the nikes have but they don't seem to get affected by the wind as much as nikes or cally's either.
