I have to disagree, the method I use has been quite accurate, unless i misread the speed of the break. Most putts I miss is my fault, either i miss ding, or I misread the speed of the break. As far as views used, I only use the reverse view, on a longer putt, I may use the forward view to get an idea of the first few lines, to see speed of break, then revert to reverse view. I probably have had no more than 15 or 20 putts that didn't break the way I thought, and they are usually putts of over 40 ft up over hills with steep breaks. If i could hit ding with more frequency, I could probably knock another 5 or 6 strokes off my rounds. I could't tell you how many putts I have left with .04 or less left, where it slides just to the right or left where I missed ding. The method I use is a take off of Gold's method, but with little calculations, except for reading the speed of break. I don't count lines, multiply, divide or any of that stuff. just read the speed of the little balls, move my little triangle and make my shot. I have made me a little ruler that helps me set up the distance from the hole to place the triangle and works quite well.
I don't know if I could do that great of a job explaining it to someone, but if interested I will give it a try. Just post on my page, or I will try to post a blog on my page about it. If I could do those videos, like other people I would explain on one of those. But, my computer is to old and slow to use those programs, I have tried. Makes my game way to glitchy to be playable.
I doubt that anyone will figure out a way to be 100% foolproof, but, if you can get 93 to 98% of your putts either in the cup or close enough to tap in on a second putt, to me that is a pretty good system. Do I ever 3 putt, yes where I have misread extremely fast breaking tourney greens. My CC likes to set up a lot of tourney's on tourney greens and I'm not at their level, so I don't have a lot of experience reading tourney speed greens yet. As you know, as you move up from teir to teir, green speeds and breaks get faster and faster. You have to adjust for the different speeds of the little balls to read your break, and even reading the speed from course to course is different. What might read as a 1 on Kiawah, can read as a 2 on Congressional. So yes. memory of what courses read faster than others, comes into play. Some courses give me a harder time than others, this method is not perfect, none are! I know when I first hit Master level, my putting went to crap! I had to make minor adjustments in my reading and even my scale might be off by just a tad now, or it could be me not reading it right. But, my putting is starting to come back around, but not hitting the "ding". Still need improvement there.
