I am considering buying 4th wedge to use at St. Andrews and taking the 3 wood that I seldom use there out of the bag. Any ideas on that?

It's how I've been playing SA for about a week now.

    Great idea born.

Hmm... I have found the 3w to be useful on that eagle-prone par 5 (especially with head-wind), or on hole 9 (depending on wind direction), but that may be just me. 4 wedges seems like a slight overkill, dunno! But 3 wedges are definitely useful on all courses.

What will you use more-a 3W for an occasional eagle try at the par 5 or that extra wedge that could conceivably be used many more times?

If you drive far enough on that par 5 to be able to reach the green with the 3 iron, there is no need for the 3w.  With the master driver from tips a 3 iron is usable as 5 green runs.  As far as 9 is concerned, even with tail wind, which I haven't seen much, just back off the driver.

3wd is critical at sta, 4th wedge i'm guessing would be of the 105 yrd. range. just dont hit it to that distance to much. ck my replay off 9 tee if you think 3wd is a wasted club at sta. thx JB

When I play SA,  I've been dropping the 3w and replacing it with my Rapture driver. Sometimes shorter off the tee is better. Do I miss out on eagle chances on #5 ? ... I dunno.  I've been laying up and hitting a wedge in. Seems like about the same chance of holing out from 50 yrds as I'd have making that 120 foot eagle putt.

Critcal? For 1 hole and a prayer that the wind is blowing right?  I would imagine you could figure out how hard not to swing a driver to get 3W distance off the tee. JMO

Gee im lost i never use a 3wood id rather say 4 wedges is critical, hence why id like to be able to swap my upper irons for another wedge and a rescue wood

    my2 cents CSC
