Flights for the Special Oddball tournaments idea

  This is a reply I posted in another thread. I thought I would start a new topic in hopes someone from WGT would see it and respond.

   

  I'm sure most of the WGT community play real golf. And most have probably participated in tournaments at one time or another. For special tournaments like the Sun Safe Classic I think it would be beneficial for WGT to flight them. I'm sure they would get way more entries when players with lesser equipment and skill levels have a chance to win something too.

  For those of you that don't know what tournament flights are. Everyone plays the tournament. Let's say there were 500 entries. WGT could make 5 flights.

  Championship flight is the Top 100 and all ties

  First flight next 100 and ties

  and so on.

  Ties breakers are dealt with the same way they are dealt with now.

  All scores would be kept secret until the tourney is finished so there would be no way to know what to shoot to end up first in first flight or whatever. No way to sandbag in other words.

   

  I'm not saying this is something that should be done for the majors.

  Anyone see a downside to this at all?

  So no one here thinks this is a way to give more players a chance to win something in specialty tournaments?

  I guess it's easier for people to keep bitching about how they aren't good enough to place or win in these types of tournaments instead of coming up with solutions.

  Almost all the tournaments that i play IRG are flighted.    If we didnt have flighting these tournaments would no longer be around,  the 14 and over handicap players would be gone for certain being that they are paying the same entry fees as scratch golfers, with almost no chance of placing.     I personally like flighting, paying the first 3 places(wgt might be more like 6-10 places depending on entrant numbers) in each flight............would love to see skins and ctth added too(individual player option for additional creds).    Blind flighting is the only way, as you mentioned darsum.   

  Downside is i think wgt uses the tier system for flighting,which of course opens a whole new forum up.   LOL
