  Whats with the tree limb hanging down over the middle of the fairway on #5, has to be a dead limb and someone needs to pull it down ASAP.

   

  whatever you do if you have R11's do not use the 3 wood, way to much height on that club even with top spin. 

  edit: I had the chance just now with a 13 wind to my back, I thought hmm, lets try the 3 iron, very high loft (R11) off the tee. Sailed clean over that tree without any backspin.

  I am having big time trouble with the greens speed, it stands "tournament", but the qualifying greens are not tournament speed! They are much slower...why??!!

  They certainly are slower than tournament and it took me 3 rounds to adjust my putting accordingly. Left many putts short in rounds 1 & 2, which is very unusual for me.

   

  I agree! It's the 'other' tourney green speed/ TM speed, suprisingly slow. I suppose they want folks to qualify & after all it is just that, a qualifier but,,a U.S. Open I thought would be at least comparable to the other championship green speeds.

  Even though I have yet to produce a good score, Olympic already is my new favourite WGT course. The photography is absolutely stunning, and the course itself is really beautiful with those pine trees, plus views of San Francisco and Lake Merced to one hand, and an occasional glimpse of the Pacific Ocean to the other. Simply gorgeous, and more aesthetic variety for the roster of WGT courses!

  But in addition to that, it's probably the most challenging track here at WGT so far. I remember reading posts some months ago which said the course looked boring. Ha! Well, look again. Pinched fairways with lots of thick rough waiting for anybody who doesn't ding the tee shot or has driven it into one of the many trees lining the narrow fairways. More elevation than on any other WGT featured course. And undulating greens which seem to have a slightly lower speed than usual tourney greens, but more severe breaks than all other courses over here. What I also like about the course is the mix and variety. It features some very long par 4s, an incredibly long par 5, but also a drivable par 4 and a couple of shorter par 3s.

  In short, it's a fantastic course, and WGT did a fantastic job!

  Agreed.  Absolutely beautiful course; the finishing holes are great & should be a lot of fun in match play when that comes online.  Posted a 64 in my first round (including an eagle on 7 after driving the green), just outside today's cut line.  By mid-June, I'm guessing that line will be pushing the mid-50s or below.  In terms of difficulty, though, nowhere near as challenging as Oakmont - or even Congressional

  I actually find it more challenging than Congressional; with these greens you can't consider any hole to be a gimme, unlike most of the greens at Congressional. I've had more lip-outs on my putts in five rounds so far at Olympic than I've had on any other course on this game. And yet it's already my favorite. Stunning job, WGT.

  Why do Golf Course designers in our times, mostly increase difficulty with length.

  Old school design in golf is best in the many ways to add to your head-aches.

  Small greens, sloping more than just back to front. Narrow fairways, elevation change, and tilting fairways while forcing a specific shot shape by the player. Risk and reward design elements are other factors were used in making a course challenging and interesting with a lot of replay appeal.

  I would compare this course to mostly Bethpage crossed with Oakmont, yet it has many features those other courses don't.

  A very welcome addition to WGT indeed!

  I concur! LOL Good  analogy. Tee to green I think I totally get this course. Putting is another matter! Never had so many lipouts! And there must be a 'grain' thing going on; some putts you have to hammer and others go much farther than they should (exaggerated by uphill/downhill). Olympic replaced its poa annua greens a while back with bentgrass. Need to pay more attention to 'shiny' versus dark green shades on the greens wherever it is noticeable - shiny is faster (laying down) and dark green is slower (standing up).

  i think if oakmont had an affair with congressional and then asked bethpage if she would like to join in, on a threesome, olympic is what they would produce :)

  excellent addition to wgt, they really have done a great job with this 1 i love it.......
