Looking to upgrade my rapture, or at least supplement my bag for courses like kiawah.  I am going to keep the rapture for courses like Bethpage since 5yds further wont help me any bit on the par 5's there, and an easy meter is beneficial on bad timing days.

So which do you guys prefer, the R9 with more forgiveness or the G10 with more precision?  I am leaning to forgiveness since teh meter is faster and I dont expect to stick a 3 wood within 5 ft anyway.  But maybe you guys have a different take on it.

    thanks

I searched that, its about drivers, not 3 woods, at least thats what the 1st page is.  I dont usually go past the 1st or 2nd page, the topic seems to get quite skewed.

I started off with the R9, then switched to the Ping.  At first the difference in precision didn't matter, but now it does.  It may only be on one or 2 shots a round (2nd shots at the Kia par 5's) but through experience I've found that the difference in the R9 to the Ping can result in a shot that dies in the hill (Kia #2, 7, and 11) or one that bounces onto the green for a 5-10 foot eagle putt. At he level you're playing at, my personal preference is that the added precision is necessary if you want to go low. I'd don't carry a 3wd for any other course anyway.

In that case I can't talk about the G10 but I have the R9 and if I could give it to you I would. It's collecting dust because I use an HB if I need a fairway club. There's another discussion about that on SA here   http://wgt.com/forums/t/10203.aspxI It's more about the use of the 3W.

yeah, its really a course club.  I am going to keep my Ping for Bethpage, on the fence about st andrews.  5 yards is not going to help reach the par 5, either the wind is there or its not.  Its really for Kiawah.  That 5 yds and better performance on down wind shots make the difference in reaching #2, #7, #11.  Right now I need at the least a steady downwind to reach them.  But I am thinking with 5yds further in a new 3 wood, I might get an extra eagle opp per round and not lose anything by leaving the Ping at home.

At Kiawah you need at least the following winds to reach the par 5's (from master tees, assuming you have the best distance balls):

#2 - either tailwind +2, or some right to left/tail combo of +2 or more. You probably need a minimum of 289 off the tee to position yourself at the end of the fairway without going in the rough. If the wind is +5 or more, I usually only hit my driver 95%.

#7 - anything better than -2 or 3 in your face, and you should be able to reach. A 235 3WD with TS (aimed left to avoid the hill) might get on.

#11 - pretty much need a neutral or tailwind to get on.

#16 - can be reached if you have a high tailwind (+15 or something). You can hit full bs on the drive to reach the upper right part of the fairway. Then you might have 255-270. If you hit the Ping 235 3WD accurately you can catch the hill on the fairway and roll onto (or more likely through) the green.

    Good luck

G10,  more trajectory options, more precision.

With the Ping 3 wood, I have reached #2 about 3 times.  #7 with any downwind.  #11 with at least 7mph down wind and never on #16.  Thats for master tees.  So it would appear from your numbers that the longer 3 wood is a little better in getting the green in 2 on all but the last hole.  Just need to figure out R9 or G10 now.
