    Hi all,

I have just got to level 83 TM and got some lvl83 G20 iron set having come from the Raptures.

Not technically club minded, I hit my raptures around the distance they are rated at and they pretty much went that distance through all clubs.

These G20's are crazy? I haven't tested them in anger, but my first few knocks with them have stunned me!

Kiawah hole #1, from fairway to green 2mph side wind

I hit the 200 club and it went 185

I hit the 215 club and it went 202

I hit the 185 club and it went 172.ne from Raptures

All these shots were full backspin.

Ok some might that is why, but really? I need to stop the ball as quickly as possible on the greens!

Do I really have to calculate a load of maths to get the distant I need?

Have a bought a duff set of clubs??  lol

Any help appreciated as I really need the slower meter.

    hi

these clubs have much more spin, so when you apply backlspin the distance decreases. you just have to play them a bit longer and adjust./

when I hit r11's, i often hit full bs and add 10 yards just for bs alone:)

Adjusted yardages are in this thread. They're definitely not a duff set as far as I'm concerned. Just broke 60 for the first time.

I've only been playing a month or so and love the  L48 Raptures. Yesterday I bought the L59 G20's and had all kinds of problems as you describe.  I should have rented them first.  I've put them away and gone back to the Raptures.

I think it is the higher loft that I can't get the hang of. The Raptures are Med/High and the G20's are high. With the Raptures it is a casual affair to figure the distance accounting for wind and so forth. But I can't get a handle on the G20's at all. I'm also not a spin meister, I rarely use spin and maybe that's another reason as well (that a knowledge of spin is important in using these clubs).

I do just fine with my high loft Cleveland wedges so I didn't even think the high loft of the irons would be an issue, but that has turned out to be the case.

At my level the stopping power, accuracy, and distance of the Raptures is just fine. I'll hang on to my G20's and try them again in the future. For now I'll stick to my trusty Raptures.

Wish I could buy those G20's from you NYC :( Im sure being a fellow New Yorker (Bronx) I could get a good price. I'm assuming your from NY hence the name right?

Yah, born & raised NYC though I have lived other places as well. Currently live in Brooklyn.

Due to their expense I'll hang on to them until I get to a higher level and try again. I'll monkey around with them on CTTH and practice rounds until then. With the Raptures and my new G20 driver (adjusting to that was a cakewalk compared to the irons) I just shot my lowest score--albeit on one of the easier courses--a 64. Not earth-shaking by WGT standards, but I'm happy as a clam. The Raptures are fun. The G20's at my level of experience are not. But I think I'm here for the long term, I'm addicted, so one day you may very well see the G20's in my bag.

One thing I keep seeing alot of is players buying a set of clubs and giving up on them too soon.  I went from the K15s, similar to the Raptures, to the G20s and there is a decent learning curve to them.  I made it through as Master for a spell with the K15s and after playing through the learning on the g20s, have really lowered my scores.

It's not necessarily knowledge of spin that impacts learning a new set.  It's a matter of learning all aspects of the clubs and their capabilities.  Simple rule with spin:

Back spin is more affected by the wind, takes some distance from the rated distance and will stop/roll less than no spin at all.
Top spin will be less affected by wind, land shorter, but roll longer.

Don't give up on the g20s - you'll want/need them when you hit Master tier.

    Thanks :)

I'm still struggling with them and only play practice rounds and some CTTH  with them. But of course I won't sell them, as you say one day I will need them.
