New Irons; Precision or Forgiveness : THE MAD GOLFER

  Im rebuilding my bag, and now looking at irons. Raptures lv48 , G20s lv 59 and Burners 2.0 lv 15 . Now the question is what is more important precision or forgiveness ? I want a good selection because even though my credits are free, you still have to put in some time too get them. I hate loving this game but I gotta play it. All advice will be greatly appreciated. Seeeeeeee Yaaaaaaaa.

  Man, I'm having trouble with the G20 irons. Can't adjust to the higher loft which means the ball is more affected by the wind. They also seem go farther than their rated distance when no backspin is applied so I'm having a hell of time figuring that out as well. But so many people here love 'em I know it's me and not the irons. 

  However, I'm keeping them (though keeping them aside for now) because if I ever get to the Master tees, longer, more accurate irons are needed. I got a taste of that on the Olympic course, and if you want to carry elevated bunkers like on Bethpage the high loft will get you there. 

  I would also like to hear comments on precision vs. forgiveness. I'm not even exactly sure what precision does as right now I can put the ball closer with the Raptures than with the G20's, but obviously you have to consider that I'm having trouble with the G20's.

  My GIR and average distance to the pin need improvement!

  Always go for the high loft irons. I prefer the lvl79 burners but i have no problem with the faster meter. If you cant handle the fast meter the g20's are your best bet.

  With every new iron set you have to get dialed in to the distances. Set up a practice round at Kiawah or BPB  with low wind and just max out your shots going up and down the fairway and make notes on distance, Full Backspin, Full topspin no spin etc.

  @Lonny, why not go for the 83 G20"s

  @nyctc keep at it with the g20's give yourself some time. The lvl 59 ones will get you all the way to legend and even beyond if you do not feel the need to compete in top level RG and Tourneys

  @Lonny, why not go for the 83 G20"s

  Agree with RootsRo here - get the level 83 G20s.  I would also suggest the level 39 satin 64 degree wedge for around the greens.  Learn this club and anything inside of 50 yards gets put within 1-2 yards of the cup.  When you tier up you can then consider longer driver/3-wood (or just get the full level 83 G20 set now if you can and save a few credits from buying them individually).

  Get the G20s. You'll be disappointed if you don't. This advice is coming from very good players. I used to be in the same CC as RootsRo, and I'm a friend of Spammage. Check out our profiles and look at our stats. We all used the G20s at once. They are the best irons you can get other than the Burner 2.0s or the R11s. I suggest buying the 2.0s with the faster meter that way it's easier to adjust to the R11s than any other irons.

  Forgiveness means nothing if you can't keep up to the swing meter.  If the meter is not an issue  R11's are the answer  Hope that helps

  The R11's are the top irons on here.  They are forgiving for missing the Ding but if you really miss the Ding....you will be penalized. 

  The thing I love about the R11's are in 40-50 rough, you "club up" 2 clubs and it cuts through the rough and the ball even has "stop" on it with full b/s.

  No other irons on here are their equal.

  In looking at your equipment, one thing that strikes me is how different the meters are across your club selection - slow G20 meter, fast 3W, slow 3i.  Part of what I might base my choices on would be what meter speed you're most comfortable with.  

  I have the full G20 L59+ set and once I got used to them, started shaving strokes like nobody's business.  Part of this is because I have a consistent meter across the board (except the wedges, but there's not really much to be done about that).

  I can't speak to the other sets, as I've not used them, but I do love me my G20s.

  Check out this post about the yardages on the G20s - I've found this to be pretty accurate, winds notwithstanding

  Another good post about precision vs. forgiveness - my understanding is that precision refers to how close to your aiming the point the ball will land. Forgiveness refers to the variation from the aiming point the ball will fly when you miss the ding.
