anyone know if the starters and beginners are the same thing with a new name since the latest update, or if they are actually two different sets of clubs?

Two different sets of clubs.  There is less yardage on the beginners and they don't swing nearly as fast.  They have no precision but really high forgiveness.  They're fun to use when playing from the forward tees with your friends as a change of pace.  As of now they don't have much function to experienced players, but eventually they will assist with new user education to help avoid some of the repeat questions and make it less necessary to read the FAQ.

    Thanks Niv,

Are these new clubs automatically given out to new members, and they work their way into the starters? Is it an automatic process, like tier progression? I apologize if there is a FAQ somewhere addressing this update, I haven't seen it, and the question came up this evening in a round I was playing with a 2 day old player. I didn't know where to look.

If you come up with a set that gives in-game tips on how to master the speed of the master tier R9 8.5 meter, I'll take one please!

I believe they should now be given out to all members, new and old.  Unfortunately, I don't have any more details on how the process will work quite yet. =(

Ok, I have some more information today.

Beginner clubs are being used for new players when they first start the game.  When a player first signs up to play on the site they are automatically directed to a basic in-game tutorial where they will use beginner clubs and learn the basics of the game before diving in.  Upon completion of the tutorial they will be awarded the standard starter set and will then go through another basic tutorial showing them how to equip their new clubs.  More depth will be added to the tutorial later, but for now we wanted to cover some the most frequently asked basic questions (how to swing, change clubs etc).

    Thanks again Niv,

It looks like both beginners and starters are given to every player, regardless of rank. I have a full set of beginner irons as well as a full set of starter irons in my equipment, same for wedges, etc.

Sounds like the best way to handle it, give them to everyone, and not try to program them for only the newbs. If I'm hearing you right, new players start  with the beginners, then are taught how to equip the starters (once equipped with them) as part of the learning process. Good approach, as there seem to be a lot of ?'s posted about equipment purchases that don't show, and many times it is just a matter of the new clubs not being equipped. Killing two birds with one stone is always a good approach!

    Thanks again for the feedback

One last unrelated question, if you don't mind.

Starting today I am seeing a delay in a post actually showing. used to be that as soon as you clicked 'Post' and it refreshed back to the thread, the post was there. Today it takes anywhere from 10-30 seconds. Is this a new expected behavior as part of a auto-preview type check of new posts, or should this not be happening?

It isn't only on posts with images, as the post I just made above, text only, took almost 20 seconds to show.

I just played a practice round and it played for me, even though I have been through it before and turned it off.

I'm guessing that with every player getting the beginner clubs, this feature was reset for all players, too - but just a guess.

Try a practice round and see if you get the same thing!
