Although I don't subscribe to the practice but on occasion have tried it, although rarely seen in real play golf, according to USGA rules there is no rule in golf on what club you can use on any surface of a golf course. However, every country club can for non sanctioned USGA events or course play enforce a no iron on putting surface rule. I really don't see why all the fuss about members using it though.

PS not to be nit picky and I'm no spelling major but your "aloud" should be spelled "allowed"

    Why shouldn't it?

If you are going to make such a request, why aren't you calling for a ban on using a putter from the fringe or anywhere else that is officially off the green?

Personally I don't use a wedge on the green but I am not going to demand that those who have mastered such a shot not be allowed to use it. WGT is already making the game more realistic by recently removing spin from the wedge on the green. Let their programmers continue to make adjustments rather than demand they take a perfectly legal shot away from people.

Whats the problem?  Its not like we are creating divots!  Any way, i like my trick pitch shot from 5 yards to hole for birdie, always impresses my friends! , they are always asking, "how did you do that?"

Agreed. It should be done in complete silence (so the greenskeeper doesn't hear you).

its no biggie chipping on the greens, i tried it in practice. but i personally dont like playing a game with others that chipping is involved on the greens. we all have our opinions.
