In your opinion, how much distance do you think you lose, by missing the ding on a shot?

Now I know it depends on the club your using.

    I sometimes gain distance,

the type of spin ball your using has an effect as well, and then you have to take into account the amount of deviation that was put on your shot, not an easy one to calculate.anywhere between +5 & - 12 yds.

I'd make a wild guess at 4 yards if it's just a slight miss.

I with you on this one, ESP at Olympic. Aiming opposite the wind and missing the ding on the other side I can shape the shot to the doglegs and actually gain distance.

This method works on other courses as well.

There are multiple threads about how to make this shot that explain it better than I can.
