I've been trying to think what's different and the biggest single thing has to be the backspin. Most players are landing it short, rolling it on and hoping it stops whereas on WGT even with tailwinds you can stop a ball dead with top irons and a top ball.

Interesting to read what MisterWGT said about changes in the future but I'm really not sure how the game can be made more realistic other than be decreasing the spin and increasing the meter speed.

I'm sure someone posted a replay of one on 7 a few weeks ago.

Tiger was hitting 220 with his 6 iron today in very little wind. After watching him, Phil and Bubba today and how they played this course, I'm beginning to think what a lot of players are calling deviations at Olympic are actually shots representing how they would play there IRL, i.e., the 6i going 220. Interestingly enough, his 5 iron on 8 fell way short. What do you suppose he was thinking then?  He hits a 6 iron 220 and the 5 iron goes less? Here it would be called a deviation.

@saltire-The greens there are hard and fast, unlike here. You won't see many players sticking Championship greens.

Would be cool if we could practice on them then as it requires a totally different approach game.

I rather enjoy a tough round with a fantastic & sweet 66 ...as Michael Thompson today.

I totally agree with that. I set up a best of hardest, high winds in my CC and I was basically the only person to enter. I was very pleased with a 72 as well!

lol, I asked Jim (JankeeJim) how to setup a practice round at Olympic with high winds.....to see ONLY winds at 18 mph maximum!

Wind should have more or less the same effect on the shots like they pros are having in the Open.

that they can actually compete with the pros IRL

so does that mean i should cancel the clubs from walmart

because i thought i could win next weeks tourney by just showing up?

I think we'll see different scores in the Championship round vs. the endless free play of the qualifier.

Think about it this way... for every 10,000 rounds started on Olympic in the last month, approximately 600 actually post a score on the 18th.

I'm sure Phil would have LOVED a restart after his first tee shot.

Hence why the Championship rounds will be fascinating.  Many give-up after their first blown hole... sadly enough... when even the leaders in round 1 could easily have 1-2 bad holes in round two and suddenly you're back in it!

Certainly... endless play qualifiers are hardly realistic.

Ok, but most of us still couldn't qualify and won't get to play the championship rounds. Will there be a/ a single play round (or multi-round) with championship greens by tier and b/ a chance to practice with the championship greens first?

Clearly it would be no fun to have a single play in totally alien conditions.

Edit: I know there's a Nation tournament this weekend but I won't be around so can't post scores in the second/third days.
