I've written to wgt about them stopping wedges on green and the answer I get is it creates a 6 inch divot. Just because some one can't figure out how to use the wedge and complains they come up with this excuse.Pro's do it in real matches and it's a legal shot so why does WGT feel the need to stop this shot. I still use the wedge on the green but without the control I had before because of them stopping the use of backspin. I thought you wanted to make this as realistic as the Pro's ?  And if I was hitting this shot for real I could create the backspin. Why don't they come up with a way to stop shots coming out of the bunker which you can do in real play. Or stop the cheating on here during tournament play. OR WHEN YOU PAY 60 CREDITS TO PLAY A COURSE AND YOU GET BOOTED YOU CAN'T GET BACK IN TO PLAY WITH THE GROUP YOU WERE PLAYING WITH AT THE TIME. How about taking surveys only to be booted from it right at the end so you don't get the credits but they still get there answers. And then the go on to tell you the can't find where you took the survey. So wgt there is more wrong with the game with you having to stop a legal shot.

Legal shot? Yes. Therefore it should be allowed and it IS allowed.

Backspin control? Not as realistic as no backspin control. Even Phil Mickelson flops wedges on the greens and the shot rolls out a little. In real life, to impart the backspin control you are calling for here would get you thrown off the course, AFTER you repair the divot.

If you hit a wedge on the green no matter if you use backspin or don't you'll still get a divot. And as far as the ball rolling we did get roll on our shots and wouldn't get you thrown off because it's a legal shot. Do you think Phil wouldn't create a divot? Anyone using a wedge would. But my problem is we have been doing this shot for over 8 months and all of a sudden they take the backspin away. Only reason was someone complained who couldn't figure the shot out.And I'm not the only one complaining a lot of guys are that I've talked to on here.

They haven't stopped wedges on greens, you just have to play it differently than before

In the shot you are referring to, he did not;)

There are other golfers who have taken the shot I just said Phil because of the other person gave his name. And they may have not stop the shot but they stopped the effectiveness of it by not letting you use backspin.if your using a wedge you can create your own backspin.

pete- I've been a member on this site for over 5 years and have watched this game evolve as WGT attempts to make the game more and more realistic. I'm 100% sure they did not make the wedge shot on the green more realistic because "someone complained who couldn't figure the shot out." Considering that the vast majority of legends who spend the bulk of the money here are very capable of hitting that shot, just who is that minority "someone" holding so much influence over this multi-million dollar business?

Yes, people complain about no longer being able to spin their wedges in excess of what the top players in the world can do in real life. It's a game under constant development and change. Embrace the challenge and learn to hit the shot under the new conditions.

No, Phil, Zach Johnson, etc. do not create divots on the rare occasion that they are forced to use a wedge on the green. As the top professionals they have the control to hit the shot without a divot. They either flop the shot or chip it in such a manner as to allow for the rollout without taking taking a piece out of the green.

Its a shot we now seldom use because its just a "wedge speed putter". Why use a faster putter with no spin control allowed..!

    Thanks (not) WGT,,,!

As it should be. It's also a shot seldom used in real life.

Yeah, I'm watching the Open at Olympic and just cursing WGT for changing the wedge-on-the-green shot. The pros are hitting so many wedges on the greens, I'm jealous. Everybody talks about the ONE TIME they saw Phil or Zach or whoever chip on the green ... what they fail to note is that for every time that happens, there are about 30,000 putts. Obviously some people here used it all the time, judging from the amount of b**ching. It's extremely rare IRL, and should be rare here too.
