I absolutely love this game, but......

  I absolutely love this game! I have also purchased $100 of credits because I think WGT deserves it for the hours of superb entertainment I receive. There is just one thing that drives me really mad. I find that the Chip shot is an absolute gamble. There is no logic to it as there is to the other shots and I have absolutely RUINED really good potential rounds from just a few yards off the green by taking 3 or 4 bad chip shots. A real issue when I have paid for a round in credits!!!

  Is this a bug in the Beta software or can someone help me before I put my fist through my computer monitor - please.

  i personally never use chip shots unless im on the fringe just my opinon though i prefer the flop shot safer i find chip out of rough can go nowhere and then u have the same shot again flop shot is the shot for me hope this helps.

I'm probably not the best person to answer questions related to chip shots, but there is a whole community of helpful, knowledgeable players here who can either jump in to your thread and offer advice, or have offered similar advice in past threads.   i dont use a chip shot that often unless i need to run it across the green and i have very little fringe to go thru.  i went thru the same thing you are and i started to use the pitch and flop options and make sure you hit the ding.

  yeah , i almost never use chip .. unless the situation is like Bsmewbert described .. NEVER use pitch .. the flopshot is my good friend .. i can usually get it inside 2 yrd from the hole to save par .. maybe i should practise the pitch again sumtime

  That starter wedge is an issue, try the level 42 Ping (64 degree) not many credits and a heck of a club.
