This is a rough scale i use and is used with the R11 irons, these have a high loft so wind might effect medium loft clubs differently.
There's a lot of factors which come in to play when calculating a specific shot in wind. There's extra yardage which you should get from say Nike balls, using spin and different irons get effected by wind differently: This is a rough guide and is what i go by:
10 mph wind (add/subtract yards)
60 yard wedge=3 yards, 80 yard wedge=4, 100 yard wedge and 120 PW = 5, 9i = 5,. 8i = 6, 7i=6.5, 6i=7, 5i=8 4i=9 or 10 (depending on hole or if on tee) 3i=10 or 11, wood= 10
so i will give a few different shots i might use for a 195 yard shot in headwind and tailwind
If it was 20 mph tailwind i might use 180 iron with full spin & full power (175 yards with full spin) and knowing it will get effected by 7 yards per 10 mph wind, therefore i add 14 yards so i should get 189 yards. Because this still leaves me a few yards short i would lift the spin dot up a fraction to get the extra yardage required.
Knowing i get 188 yards from my 180 iron with no spin (due to nikes), if i was on a green where a roll on approach is o.k (kiwah#6) i would choke down 180 yard iron so instead of 188 yards i get 181and adding the 14 yards wind effect i would get the 195 required.
Headwind, i might use my 210 iron with 3/4 spin or use no spin and choke it down because 10 mph wind effects this by say 9 yards every 10 mph wind so 195 yards + 18 (2x 9=18) 213
I would use 210 iron either by choking it down a touch or using 3/4 spin and full power. But all this is on the presumption i should get 220 yards from it due to the extra yardage from nikes
A safer option (just in-case wgt decides not to give me the extra yardage from balls) would be to use the 225 iron with full spin (223 yards) and choke it down until i have say 215 yards (a few yards longer than 210 iron as wind might effected it by a yard extra)
It all takes a bit of practice, and knowing "roughly" how much wind effects a different club, as was mentioned above, my 9i is going to get effected less by 20 mph wind than what the 5 iron does.
