On a number of putts I have noticed that the ball seems to "jump" in the direction of the break off the putter face. By "jump" I mean the ball moves sharply to one direction or the other during the first two to three feet of the putt. No too bad on shorter putts but on a longish lag it can lead to the putt ending up well off the intended line. I understand how to read greens on WGT. The speed of the break is shown by the speed of the moving dots, that's obvious. It seems, however, that some putts have this frustrating tendency. I understand also that the break is affected by the uphill/downhill slope as well as the power with which the putt is hit. A soft putt will be affected, and break faster and more than a strong putt. I have experienced this on both shorter and longer putts of various speeds. Every so often a putt will suddenly just seem to jerk to either the left or right immediately. I understand that a putt that drops elevation quickly will also follow the break quickly and one should take this into consideration when lining up the putt. All I can assume is that these putts should just be filed with the occasional shot that even if hit perfectly flies off is a random direction. When these shots happen my friends and I just joke that WGT has decided it's been too long since you spent money. Anyone else out there had these "mystery" putts?

Every time I play. Especially when you cant tell which side of the grain your on . I am getting used to it but the ball should break more the further it goes and not break exactly when you hit it. The physics are a bit off but nothing is perfect :(

Look near your ball.  Often times your on the edge of a severe slope and it's flatter by the hole.  It pays to check both views to look at the entire line of your putt.  This can really affect chipping.

I have the same problem about every 10th putt or so.  How in the world can you see the grain on these greens?  When it happens, it is and immediate strong right or left off the putter head.

Its the off-ding effect..  Most times you see the "off-ding" adjustment at the end of the roll.  Sometimes you see it right off the putter face.

More than likely you're missing the first 2-3 feet of break at your feet.  It's one thing to see the entire putting arc and get that right BUT you can start off in the wrong direction if you miss that early break.

I'm not aware of grain factoring into a putt, it's all about the dots and how they're moving and if they're moving at your feet you have to take that into account first.  :-)

Thanks, but that's not the problem.  It will do it on a straight in putt with no break at all.  I had another member tell me yesterday that he had the same issue with nike balls, which is what I use, and that it stopped when he switched to a different ball.

Could well be the case.  I just played a B9 RG, and studied a putt well.  Front and reverse views in putt / chip view were saying that little booger breaks sharp left, just in front of club face, before that 9 feet of right break.   Well went with what I could see and straight through the initial but took all the rest..........How some players turn up to a new course and just putt through is beyond me, but I never can.

Now OK that's a not a new course though.  The real smart play would be for me to have made copious notes / saved a replay / converted to GIF etc, but I never of course, and pretty sure give it a month will wonder at the same putt and may or may not get it right.

Look at the entire putt though for sure.  Move that aim marker all around to build a topography in the minds eye.  is it really 10' ? as moving that aim market an inch may throw up 11' etc........

If the arrow is pointing up I am more aggressive if anything, but maybe that's fairy dust lol.

I'm so glad to read this isnt just me.

Flat, straight putts and the ball literally "hops" off the putterface (usually to the right for me).

I have bought all the top putters and almost every 10 putts, I get this strange hop off effect, it drives me nuts!
