I can see this not being a very good idea. One of the great things about WGT is the community. All I can see these Country Clubs doing, unless you can join multiple clubs, is splitting the community up into cliques.

I've spent most of my life avoiding this and trying to mix with as many different people as possible, time allowing.

It sounds like they're going in the general direction of team based groups, much like how it was back in the MS Golf 3 and Links days.

I'll reserve judgment on it until I see where WGT is going with it.

Well, after reading that there will be "upgrades" that cost money...I had to rethink what WGT was going for with this release.

At first I thought it was a cool way to foster a community, by allowing sub-communities of people who like to play together, and can share feats and compete against each other.

At second glance, it seems like  another marketing vehicle for other companies, as well as WGT to give you more features to pay for, that dont necessarily enhance the game.  Kind of like adding new clothes, before fixing swing bugs.

Just an assumption based on what they have done prior, but I hope it is a combination of the two, and not just the marketing side.

In my experience, and it's been a few years, anything like this tends to foster elitism.

'Invites' will only be sent to the players the club 'Boss' thinks suitable and the run of the mill player will not be allowed to join a team that has a chance of winning anything

I know we don't KNOW this will happen here, but that's what's happened everywhere else.  Just like the elite players that win everything there will be the elite clubs that will win everything.  Also as Showtime says it's a way of promoting more cash sales such as team clothes and badges etc

To possibly prove the point I applied for membership to one of the clubs and was told that other players had been invited and that the club boss had to wait for their replies.  The club wasn't even half full

That's my say anyway, not a good thing at all

micklen club bosses are going to first invite players on their friends list..then if any spots are still open look for people that requset an invite.. I know my club only has 5 people but I have an additional 8 invites out and have over 45 friends that I will go thru..

however.. by your avatar you are a star wars fan so feel free to request a spot in SIth Lair while I still have openings...see  i dont care about "elitism" ust care about fun loving people..

That won't happen if I have anything to say about it. =)

Seriously though, we are looking into some modes of play that will allow groups to compete against each other fairly.  Some club v club action will continue to be top score of course, but there will be way(s) for the  "regular" clubs to compete against the "elite" clubs fairly as well.

As anyone who has been playing WGT for at least 6 months knows ... WGT is very deliberate in what they release and what they announce.   This is easy to see in how slow they are to bring new courses and features to us.

Whatever their eventual ideas with Country Clubs they needed to put a basic structure in place first ... which they have done by allowing us to set up clubs.    It does sound like increased participation and private tourneys are in the road map.   Hopefully there will be other "club related activities" the will release because without that .. there is really no need for country clubs

Some folks are looking for WGT's plans months in advance.   Not me ...  I'm not expecting WGT to tell us too much right now ... i mean these are public forums and why would they want their "competition" to read their future plans.

I have set up a club but will reserve my judgment on if they are good or bad for when more features are released.
