Evidently you guys arent aware that this thread is 2 years old .  It pays to read the start of a thread and not just where the page puts you . :-)

Just when does anyone take the red dot and place it to the top of the ball instead of the bottom? I've been trying to figure out when it comes into play and is a help.

Actually I use topspin all the time in certain situations.

I'm glad it was bumped, though, I'm reading thru all the advice. It's new to me!

Though it's a 2 year old thread, many current but relatively new players will also wonder when using top spin is appropriate. So the topic is still germane.

If you’re going chip the ball setting the dot to the top allows the chip to run. I found this beneficial in this case
