Now I feel depressed! I am struggling to make TM (best way would be STA front 9 but gets boring) and when I do eventually make it, Legend seems impossible from those stats. 5 1/2 football fields further - may as well be the Atlantic or a super upgrade of clubs (fits the WGT business plan).

Hats off to you Legends + of the game.

To: "alanti".......Well, don't get discouraged.  I looked at your STATS.....and many are better than MINE!

Course difficulty is different for most......I tended to hammer on Kiawah's Back 9 & St. Andrew's Front 9.  But, WGT has added some new pin locations to Kiawah....so, it's not quite as easy as it was this past Summer.  But, trust me, you do have to put in the time.  But, the fact that you have just under 400 ranked rounds....I think you're doing exceptionally well.

One of my good WGT friends reminded ME.......when he said "Bob, enjoy the journey...it' not all about the destination".  And....he was RIGHT.  Tournments, Matches, Blitzs & CTTH challenges are part of the FUN here.  I think you DO LEARN from playing all of those!  Though, I will say....I sort of avoided "Tournaments" & "Matches" for the 4-1/2 mos. I was working on getting to Legend.....I was very focused on getting low scores and meeting WGT's criteria for each new TIER.  But NOW.....just having fun and not worrying about my avg.

For some reason, my "ranked round" play has just not been very good since making "Legend"......and,I don't think it's because I'm playing from the Championship Tees.....with me, it's probably "weak putting".   And yes, having good equipment, should improve your game......good variety of wedges, the best driver and good balls.  The better balls (Callaway & Nike) slow down the meter.....that's helped me.

You'll get there................but, just don't forget to have FUN along the way.  I thought I had hit a LOT of rounds (approx. 800)....but, one of my WGT friends has hit OVER 14,400 ranked rounds.....now, THAT's a LOT of WGT golf.

    GOOD LUCK!

    Bob

Alanti, wouldn't recommend 'tanking' one course, play them all and when you hit 61.0 you will know you are ready. Also when they re-set your ave because you will be proficient on  all courses your new ave shouldn't go above 66/67, and those 'football fields' won't seem so daunting...each to his own though,no hard and fast rules..Andy

Thanks Bob for the kind words and encouragement. I totally agree that the game has to be fun, and that is paramount for me. I try and play a variety of formats and agree you do learn from them.

To a degree I have focused on the fun side, not focusing on meeting the criteria for the next tier - TM will be my next goal. So I will attack St Andrews front nine and Kiawahs front 9 (I find these easiest).

The saying "enjoy the journey...it' not all about the destination". is so true, one which I can relate to, but getting to the destination ultimately is the goal. For this I will require better clubs, especially 3 wedges but in the mean time TM here I come. :)

And when I get to TM, I will do exactly as Andy said, play all courses (what I currently do) so when I am ready for the next tier - I am ready.

Thanks Bob and Andy for you advice, it is appreciated.

40 R/Rs as a master and sub 63, I'm fairly certain. 50 R/R as Tm to Leg and sub 61.

    Is correct.

This may be due to the fact that both tees and greens change for Legends.

    1) you have longer approaches, perhaps less precise, leaving longer putts,

    2) those Legend greens are slippery as hell ;)

Here is some advice that was given to me before I moved up in the ranks.

Play practice rounds from the Championship tees using just a 3 wood instead of a driver. Why you ask? Because this is where you will learn how to use your long irons better. And believe me you will need them a lot.

Alanti, I am a TM at the moment and my average is getting very near the legend mark, I am 61.7 at present, and some one told me to put the Starter Driver and 3 wood into my bag and play a few courses of your own Tees. This will give you some idea of the length of approach shots you will have to make as Legend. Believe me, you really appreciate your own Driver and 3 wood when you go back to them. At the moment I am playing a lot of practice rounds from the Legend tee,s just to get the feel of them but with only the tournament speed greens I will not see the difference in green speed until I get to Legend.

Take your time and try not to get to frustrated if you can,t get your average to drop. It will come and suddenly you will start wishing you were back to Master. he he

As someone has already stated, have fun and enjoy the journey. When the time is right your average will suddenly drop in no time at all.

    Keep them straight and true

    Mel
