Do you think he is refering to a scramble format where you and your partner play the best ball of the two after each shot?

As fun as that would also be, best ball is not the same.

Best ball is four players, on two teams, playing all their balls through the hole in stroke format.  However, at the end of the hole, team green records only their best score as does team gold.  The match is scored like match play, though, in terms of being up or down holes.....not strokes.

Essentially the match play format is "best ball" only with one-person teams.

Pizza, this may be of particular interest to WGT in the future for "betting games."  http://golf.about.com/od/beginners/tp/bettinggames.htm

I particularly like Nassau, BingoBangoBongo, and Wolf.

When asked if putting from 4ft for 50k in prize money was a lot of pressure, Lee Trevino once retorted, "Nope.  Being 2dn and on a press with only a dollar in your pocket IS pressure."  That quote is directly linked to country club nassau games...........incredibly popular format amongst gamblers.

Lee was a hoot.  Before he went pro there was a 9 hole par-3 course  in Dallas he used to hustle on.  He'd play the round with a Pepsi bottle and whup your butt.

Actually I think Trevino used a Dr. Pepper bottle. He carried it in his bag on the chance he might find a sucker. hehe  As far as the fourball or best ball format just watch the Ryder Cup this week and you'll see it in action. I agree that it would be a wonderful addition to the formats we already have.

Also, there was an old computer golf game named "Links LS" that I've seen many reference here.  (Aside from the fact I murdered Whistler on that game and won't play it here.)

That game had several of the above linked formats.  If that old dirt software can do it, WGT can figure out a way to implement the various games today.

My original thought was for an alt shot like game where you and you partner play the best shot you have between you. I think it would be a fun addition for the casual alt shot players. The scramble type, match play best ball would make an awesome specialty tournament or CC addition

This could open up some great, new ideas for Community-Organized Tournaments.
