  Having fallen foul of gifting a relative an item they weren't XP'd enough to claim (and seeing the credits gobbled up and ne'er to be heard of again) I wondered if there's any way of actually finding out if the recipient gets the gift! Other than a response on WGT from the happy soul or word of mouth, I can't see a way to do it.

  Yes, and please send them some sort of message that they received a gift.  I recently bought a 3 wood for a friend, then a couple weeks later played him, seeing him struggle with yardages, I bought him another one.  When he went to put it in play, he saw the older, untouched one.
