       WGF Tour 2012

    Week 14 - The Tour Championship Finals1

    UPDATE

I think there's been a few frustrations with disconnections and the fact you've got 4 x 18 holes to play. Please remember you can agree to break your rounds down into two sets of nine holes provided you post the right shots for both 9's.

As time is ticking along, I'm going to allow players to partner up with the same person for two rounds out of the four. This will hopefully make it easier to get your games played and will see the number of rounds getting filled in quicker.

Well we’ve made it! The Tour Finals are upon us and there’s just this final hurdle to overcome before everyone gets a well deserved break. This week will play differently to previous weeks; dependent upon your end of season position, you will now be assigned to a group who will play each other in a straight four round tournament to decide upon the group winner.

Only players in the Maserati Cup will play for the honour of becoming the overall WGF Tour Champion. It is easily possible for the end of season Tour standings leader (AllyKennedy) to place far enough down in Week 14 to lose the title of WGF Tour Champion but it's likely that those players towards the top of the end of season standings have the best chance to winning the title.

All the other groups will have a winner who will take the assigned credit prize for that event. There are no birdie / eagle prizes for the Tour Finals though there will be prizes for best R1-R4 and the mandatory HIO / Double eagle prize.

Please take into account all four rounds are to be played over 18 holes. There are no cuts in effect so the four rounds can be played in any order. F9’s and B9’s can be split up if a player is tight for time (cards are needed for both 9’s for verification purposes). Rounds can be played in any order so it maybe sensible to leave R1 until you’ve positioned yourself within your group and know what you need to do :)

All four rounds have reasonably challenging conditions. However, please note the equipment restrictions in place for R1. Each group has different equipment restrictions in place and they gradually get harder as you go up the tour standings. Having played a dummy run of the Maserati settings, I came in +3 with two three putts that could’ve been avoided. It is very challenging and I appreciate for some this could be a very frustrating round. Fight through it as you can easily make up lost shots over the remaining three rounds.

Maserati - one wedge means only one specialist wedge can be taken on the course. For example it is your choice whether you take a 50yrd TM Satin or a 100yrd Cleveland.

R1 restrictions; card examples are shown below. There will be no exceptions to these screenshots. Any player not providing the correct screenshots will have to replay Round 1 until you can provide the correct shots needed. All players are required to post / email two screenshots. It is the same scenario with incorrect club selections. Please don't continue your round if you can see you have too many clubs in your bag. I have no way of verifying that you've not used those additional clubs and therefore you'd be asked to restart your round. Just take note of the restrictions and make sure you get it right before you start the round.

As can be seen the driver shot can be taken on the 1st tee (or any tee afterwards). IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU SHOW YOUR BAG ON THE DRIVER SHOT (hover over you club selection to show this on the screen) . This verifies that you don’t have a certain clubs in your bag. THE GREENSHOT TO VERIFY THE STARTER PUTTER CAN BE TAKEN FROM THE 15th ONWARDS (8 or 9 for those players splitting up the 9’s). For players in the Skoda group, greenshots on the final hole can be taken as you are only verifying course conditions and the starter putter. All players need to post / email screenshots for R1.

Players from each group can partner each other (a player from Maserati can partner a player from Skoda for instance). As the course settings are the same throughout, it will not impact anyone if they play with a player from a different group. Remember that if you play with a tour legend on a ranked round, you will be putting on championship greens - this is a personal choice and your first round which is posted in the forum will be counted toward your final score.

If anyone has further questions, please post them prior to starting your rounds. R’s 2-4 require the standard screenshots with only one player from the group needing to post as there are no club restrictions. Course conditions follow below:

Hi James, great last round......1 question are we allowed to play multiple rounds with the same player? As that might be easier to get the rounds in.......Just need clarification!

I'm going to keep the same rule in effect Kit that I've run through the season (1 round per player unless you're in a three ball). I may adjust this midway through the final event if people are genuinely struggling but IMO with two weeks to get four 18 holes rounds sorted and the whole of the WGF Tour field to partner with, there shouldn't be any need to play with the same player twice.

Bear in mind, you can still partner with a non-qualifying player who signed-up and participated in the tour at some stage. Their score will not be counted if it's submitted that's all.

Just for confirmation, those equipment restrictions are ONLY FOR ROUND 1. Playing this round will not effect your average as it is using practice conditions. All other rounds have no equipment restrictions.

Luciano raised a valid point. Hybrid clubs - only the Maserati group aren't allowed to use a hybrid club in R1. All other groups are permitted to use a hybrid if they wish.

To clarify the "one wedge" rule. You will have a PW with your chosen full set of irons. You are entitled to select one extra wedge on top of this for Round 1.

I for instance may decide that I will go for my shots and therefore will want a short wedge (50yrds) as most of my shots are likely to be within this range. I could also play conservatively and take an 80yrd cleveland as I'll aim to lay-up more often and play for par golf.

All I'll advise you is don't hit the bunkers when you've not got a short wedge - it makes for some very interesting guess work as to how to hit your recovery shots ;)

You can't supplement your bag with beginner / starter wedges; one extra wedge on top of your PW from your selected iron set.

Final point to reiterate. You can break up an 18 holer into 2 x 9 holes if this makes it easier for you. Look at my R3 in W13 as an example of how you need to post your card for R2-4 this week if you decide to use this method.
