Beware of new virus in Skype that spreads via goo.gl/agsIb?img= links
October 4, 2012 — andy
A new threat has been recently invented
by online hackers and cyber frauds. It spreads itself via malicious
links in Skype. Here is how the PC can be infected by this new Trojan.
First, certain users may receive the notice from their friends with the
suggestion to download some suspicious file. The message normally comes
from colleagues and friends with the following question: “Hey, is this your Skype profile pic”?
The bad thing about this infection is
that such malicious link may come as a message from a person in the list
of Skype contacts, so users sometimes tend to bravely click it. The
browser then offers to save the zip archive into some particular
destination on the computer, and then, upon execution, the malware will
be implanted onto the PC. When some actually opens this infected archive
and the file the entire Skype profile of this users becomes infected,
thus beginning to massively send similar notifications to other users in
the list of contacts.
Thus, when clicking the link the archive
is being downloaded with some file that has the random name, such as
“skype**** “. Even after reinstalling Skype the spam links continue to
be spread. It is also known that the malicious program may copy the
contacts. Probably this is done in order to top up the spam database of
hackers that developed it.
There is only one way how you can
protect your PC from such suspicious files. Simply do not download and
do not launch unknown files. By the way, it is also known that the
world’s largest and well-known antivirus programs often detect the worm
but cannot yet delete it.
In order to avoid the above-mentioned
“unpleasant” experience of facing new Skype virus we strongly recommend
you to have the powerful security software installed on your
workstation. Make sure to regularly update it. We recommend you to try
our proven anti-spyware solution – GridinSoft Trojan Killer. The
