I read with interest a post as to how to do the above.  It seems to me that there is something to be said about hitting the ding on these shots.  I played a practice roung yesterday and purposely aimed for, just off the green and traps.  Different shots and clubs.to get out.   It seems to me that if I hit the ding and get the EXCELLENT thing the shot goes about 2 feet with a full swing that I think will get me close.  If I hold off and go about 1/4 inch past the ding the shot does what I think it should.   Any thoughts?

Yea the hard way.  Last night during a practice round I got a ten on one whole.  But one has to break a few eggs to make an omlet.  I was shooting from the blacks with the highest wind setting.  After 6 shots down the far right of the fairway  on the par 5 mostly going from bunker to bunker, the wind really came into play around the green.  I purposely skyed the green twice to get a feel for the wind in both directions.  On my third attempt to get back on the green I used a 9 from about 5 yds off the green with a total of 55' to the pin and with a 3/4 punch shot , allot of backspin,1/4' off the ding to the right in a heavy rough to 1.1 ft of the pin.   But if I had a good lie off the green I found hitting the ding on these type of shots was the way to go no matter the shot selection.  Man, talk about variables.
