I am having a heck of a time with 30 yard shots. We all know 50% power doesn't go 50% of the yards. If anyone can provide me tips and being more consistent with this distance I would appreciate it.  I love my hybrid but am considering a 3rd in-between wedge too.

Current wedges: cleveland low level 64 and 56.

    64 distances: full 61, punch 49, flop 19(full spin)

    56 distances: full 92, punch 74, flop 38

I tend to punch 30 yard shots. Seems to work with a fraction of back spin and adding about 10% power.

My punch goes 49. I full backspin it. 30 yards / 49 would be 61% power. So go about 71% and I should be good?

    hi

    3 ways of thought:

    1. use flop where you can

    2. use punch where you can, with 1/2 bs it'll work very well

    3. layup to 50-60 yards instead of 30. it will make the shot much more reliable.

Be careful using %s like this. A 50% swing doesn't necessarily get you 50% of the distance. A lot of players use the movements of the avatar as measuring points. Hold the swing at the top and watch how it jerks as you decrease it. Those are avatar moves and it's fairly easy to figure out what each one is worth when you choke the swing. A piece of tape on your monitor does the same thing-you supply the marks.  :-)

Like Jim said, the percentages aren't linear when choking shots. It really is just a matter of practicing and remembering your results. My advice is to stay away from full backspin on punch shots in most situations. A little bit of spin will check the shot up nicely, and you're more likely to hole a shot on a rollout than you are backing it up. Punch shot from 45 yards in is deadly once you get it down, especially once you start adding in some top spin when the shot calls for it. BTW - I highly recommend the third wedge. You'll use it a lot more than you use your hybrid in the long run.

    Cheers

Yep I have the avatar movements counted. I've counted 11 of them with 100% power being the 12th even though the last movement comes at 91.66%

This is what I come up with. 100% power / 12 movements = 8.33% a movement theoretically. I previously made some marks of 50, 75 and 90% and the avatar movements happened at those spots I calculated below. As you still saying I need to practice at each avatar movement to get a an accurate measure of shot distance for each club. I try as much as possible to not hit shots below 90% already, but for this 30 yard shot I haven't found a consistent shot yet because of the choke effect.

    1 - 8.33

    2 - 16.66

    3 - 25

    4 - 33.3

    5 - 41.66

    6 - 50

    7 - 58.33

    8 - 66.66

    9 - 75

    10 - 83.33

    11 - 91.66

12 - full power but no avatar movement.

I have the low level cleveland's and punches don't back up for me.

I am in the process of putting a third wedge it my bag. What setup do you guys like more. I have the g20 lower level irons. My pw will go 117.

    Cleveland low level - 60, 75, 90 (105 is available too)

    Ping 60 level - 105, 85, cleveland 60

As others have said the punch shot is very useful at these distances. Using a little back spin the ball will check nicely. Once you have practiced this shot you should be able to put most shots from within 50 yards to within 3 feet of the hole on a regular basis.

Don't forget you can use the punch at longer distances too which will help fill-in the 'gaps' between your clubs including your G20 pw.
