The 17th at St-Andrews is a very tough hole.In order to not go in the trap I often end up behind the green in the frescue and I screw up every time. Can someone give me a tip how to play that shot and all frescue shots in general.Thank you.

From behind the green in the weeds I always hit a flop shot.  If I'm say 9 yards from the hole in 40-50% junk I multiply 9 yards times 1.4(the lower of the percentages) and it gives me a very close guide as to how much power to use. Actually I do that all the times when hitting flop shots from rough of any percentage.

    9 x 1.4 = 12.6

P.S. Also remember you're hitting to downhill from there so some adjustments must be made. I used the single hole option and played the Road Hole possibly 50-75 times just to test different shots around the green.

The shot of my choice is a pitch with a wee allowance for the rough %%. Usually I overshoot it, forgetting the downslope :(

back spin should help (in limits).

Play the approach shot about 7-8 yards less and use full bs. if you catch the green just above the horrible slope at the front you have a good chance of staying on, if your shot lands short then its an easier flop/pitch. If you play for the pin chances are you will bounce past.

If the pin is on the far left move the marker to the other pin placement and use half b/s and play it 7-8 yards short again. You will not be withing 10ft but good chance of it rolling down the green and left with a 2 putt for par :)

I see you have the Z-satin 64 degree wedge. Just take your 64 degree with pitch and full backspin. That should get you fairly close.

Just remember that if you use the flop shot to mve your cursor approximately 5ft left of the pin for a more direct shot due to the flop always going right because of the open face on the club head. GL and hope we all helped

ARRRRGH, I can't stand it no more ! It is called "fescue", no "r". And no, I am not the spelling police, but, this keeps popping up and quite frankly, it is driving me absolutely nuts!

    Doc :)
