  This tournament is now open. I'm loving the format of this. WGT has kept this hidden from us, but it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. The 1st place prize + 1 lucky sweepstakes winner will receive a $500 USGA Gift Card.

  I'm sure they will announce it soon!

  Two notes on timing and rules:

  1) Uncommonly, 1st round play is limited to 11:00 pm PT of the last day in accordance with the "sweepstake period", instead of 11:59. For round 2, only the dates are given but no times, so I assume full day in PT.

  True?

  2) I read chapter 4, "rounds 3&4":

  When entrant completes all thirty-six designated holes in the rounds, the number of strokes plus penalties are totaled and comprise the entrant's final score.

  and I understand that only the result of these 36 holes count towards the final result but not the qualification scores of the first two rounds.

  That's how I read it as well alosso. I'm glad the first two rounds don't count towards the final total as it takes away the frustration out of grinding away at UL Plays.

  Great format I think as WGT will no doubt do quite well in ball-use seeing as the qualifying is UL Play. Being top 50%, this also gives the chance for many more players to qualify than some of the other big events. 

  Whilst the prize tournament itself is Single Play, which all the big comps should be IMO.

  On the leaderboard it shows a place for all 4 of the rounds to be shown so my guess is all 4 rounds count.

  Would be good if we had clarification of this from wgt before i try and grind out a couple of 52's to be in with a shout....lol

  Because it's basically another Virtual U.S. Open, I think the qualifiers will be unlimited and the single play rounds will determine the final score.

  Sounds reasonable, compare the former U.S. Open leaderboard which had such format.

  Could this be a test for next years U.S. Open?  2 unlimited qualifying rounds then 2 single play rounds?

  I'm hoping by the time the 2013 US Open comes around that the uneven lies is the normal way to play and the unrealistic lies are the practice round option. ;-)

  I asked in the last chat if that was going to happen and the answer was maybe, if it's tuned. In fact, Merion's supposed to be a fairly short course that would need some defense against the equipment here. ULs would fix that.  :-)
