Just getting started, but a little confused. Uphill lie, 11mph wind against (directly) yet my 9 iron went 116 yds. I only have basic clubs and balls.

Is it just a bit random at times?

Some basic info, for each 3ft up elevation, add 1 yard, downhill each 4ft =  deduct 1 yard..

Wind is subject to balls and how much spin you put on the ball, in your case, I would add 3 or 4 yards for the wind alone.. Not knowing the elevation it's hard to say what extra yardage you should have added for elevation..

lets say you are 150 yards from the hole uphill 33 ft with 11mph in your face

    150 + 11yds (elevation) + 3 or 4 for wind = 164 or 165 yard shot..

Do yourself a big big favour, as soon as you possibly can, upgrade your clubs and balls, that is when you will see more consistent results..

    Good luck,

    Andrew
