In real golf, players can certainly use clubs/equipment to help their game a little bit i.e. you can, to a certain extent, buy improvements. This is taken to a new level by WGT where you surely have to buy stuff if you are to compete right at the very top.

Having checked the leaderboards for a few tourneys, there are usually many, many players shooting less than 60, As such though, I think there are a lot of potential players ( like me) who really don't see the point in entering most tournaments...

Please let me finish before you get on yer soapboxes...but....my suggestion then is for a completely level playing field tournament... everybody would be given the same clubs , balls and maybe only slight differences in wind..This would reduce the game to its core gameplay features i.e. that of timing, club selection, shot choice, green reading ,etc. To try to reduce any advantages of putter-pals, screen-scales ,etc.  I would have the meter scale changing slightly for each shot (well putts at least).

Many people would not like this as they would have to relearn new clubs ,etc, but for most casual users, I think this would be interesting.  Being free would be best, but this is  actually the only sort of tourney which I would consider spending some credits to take part in.

Overall, I think this would really sort those with the natural flair/timing, judgement, without any mitigating factors such as what you've spent on this putter, that driver...etc....

I know WGT initially would shudder at the idea that you don't need to "buy stuff" - but there would be potential for them to upsell equipment, balls ,etc ( by using off-the-shelf equipment in the tournaments). . . Obviously this sort of tourney would  need to be limited as a "special"  (maybe once or twice a year) as that way WGT can continue encouraging us to buy new equipment. e.g. it could be done as a Putting tournament or CTH... etc..

I am guessing that most frequent players/forum readers would not want this, but I do believe that there are many less frequent players who might be interested ?... its just an idea ....

Read every last word, only thing I can really say is you have the clubs to compete. From the tour pro tees you shouldn't be having any problems.

I still like the idea of a "special tournament", having certain club restrictions etc.

There are sometimes some tournaments like this in the Community Tournament section of the forum. However there's no reason that you can't earn enough credits to up-rate your clubs without spending money.

    Been there, done that :)

It may be difficult for WGT to organize and verify such tournament, and how to decide which clubs to stipulate?

There's only one club available to all players: The Starter set. So there have been a few attempts in the community to organize tournaments with Starters only. I took part in the last one,

'Tough-It-Out': The Trans-Atlantic Starter Clubs Uneven Open

A lot of fun (and some pain, too), look for the thread for the conditions and such.

Feel free to organize another one :)

^ This is the only answer. Starter Club Tourneys that we organize ourselves. As for WGT Tourneys, lots of people are just very good. The scores reflect the players abilities. What more could you ask for? It's a competition.

FYI: We plan on repeating the above tourney, 'Tough-It-Out': The Trans-Atlantic Starter Clubs Uneven Open, in early January. Look for signup info from mid-December on.

As Cerino says, the best players here really are that good... for instance, the winner of our tourney qualified as one of the players in the community-organized Ryder Cup, and was the only player to finish under par across the 72 hole competition under some truly tough conditions. Note that we did it under Practice conditions in order to have everyone at the same tee box, with same wind, lies, and green speed set up.

I agree with your sentiment though, autoswing, it's fascinating to see people's abilities when everyone's starting from the same base.

You have the top of the range equipment for your level, at tour pro tee's, equipment will not be why your not competing with others in your tier..

I'd take part in such a tournament though
