I'm a lvl 78 Master playing since July '12.  My only club upgrades have come from level up and video credits, and CC tourney winnings.  I tried to learn the nuances of the game, scoring with starter clubs, but felt the need to upgrade my woods due to the longer tee shots required.  I feel it's time to upgrade my set in order to better enjoy the game.

I've been reading this forum for information, but am not sure what might pertain best to my game.  My goal here is to garner input from those of you who have maybe waited until later in your play to upgrade, or have had both positive and negative experiences from your upgrades.  Unfortunately, due to work commitments, I was unable to partake of the free rental weekend.  I'm hoping the community might throw me a bone to provide some insight into what might work for me.

I appreciate any and all advice you all might be able to give.  Thanks.

    Here's my 5 cents..

You are at a high enough level to be able to get the Burners which is what I would do in your position, I went the G20 route at L50 odd and then the L83 G20's and now have the R11's..

The burners are the "2nd best" iron set on this site behind the R11's, so you would be able to get used to the slightly faster meter speed, the burner 3 and 4i will stop better on the greens due to their high trajectory..

I would bin the hybrid and get 3 decent wedges, I have the tour w pings 60/85/105 yarders which covers just about everything from 7 yds to 108 yds and the spin is easy to control..

I would recommend any other putter than what you have now, be it the cheap spider, the Daytona or Ghost manta, I know there are some VERY good players who still use the starter putter but I would advise a new one..

Last but not least, play with decent balls to get the best out of the clubs mentioned above, if credits are a problem, the WGT Tour SD's at 90 credits a sleeve are the closest you will get to Callie/Nike performance..

    Good luck :-)

Hi loose not sure if u remember me we were in same country club and we had some good competition in our CC tournaments...

For ur level the best upgrades are,

    1. Rocket ballz Driver lvl 69 or you can wait for lvl 81 G20 driver

    2. Rocket ballz 3wood

    3. G20 iron set but if u can handle high speed meter or buy good balll can wait for Burner of lvl 79

    4. Ping wedges (95-75-60  or 105-85-60) Very Reliable but low cost or the Cleveland wedges according to ur choise

    5. Putter choice vary from person to person ,, I was using the Spider putter but recently changed to Daytona Rossa putter which very accurate but lill less forgiving than the spider putter..

    .................................

these are really a lot investment so hope u will take more advice form experienced players on here .

Agreed 100%.  My first wedge upgrades were the tour w pings ,and i still use the burner irons.  The Rossa putter served me for a long time and is a very good value in my opinion.

    For Aidanspa and Lizard...

The only buner set now is the L15+set.  Is that the set you both are referring to, or has WGT dropped the upper level burners for another set that I should look at?  Taylor Made has 3 upper level sets available at my level (R9, Tour Preferred, and Rocketballz.)  Which of these 3 is comparable to the older burners? Or do I wait for the Lvl79+ Burners?

The G20s have a slower meter and play well from the Master tees. Im a Master as well, just kicked lvl 91 in the butt. I now play the upper lvl G20s and enjoy them a lot. So if you go the lower Lvl Gs, you will still be able   to play well at your tier.Or you can wait till you reach the 80 lvls to get upper G20s. As for wedges, if you go with the G20s, get the pings  54w, 58w, and 60w. These will cover you from 75, 85, and 105 yards.Have fun and Happy Swinging

Apologies for the confusion, I was referring to the L79 burners as you are at L78 :-) It was in my mind that they were available at L76 when I wrote my initial reply to your post..

Other than that slight error, the rest of the advice will take you all the way to L90 and the amazing R11's..
