Golf is still a game of etiquette isn't it?

I know that many have comments regarding many different aspects of how people are playing and conducting themselves while being part of this tour.  We must remember what makes golf the special game that it is, etiquette.

No matter how bad someone plays, no matter how much they like to chat, no matter how long their shots may take, we ALL must use some etiquette and use a little restraint and show respect for each other and for the great game that golf is.  The game would not be special if etiquette was not practiced.  It is getting to the point (on the WGT) where some players are swearing at other players and calling them names when they choose not to react to constant badgering by players who feel they have the right to try and intimidate someone in order to win.

The game has no place for players who act in this manner, whether it be a video game or the real thing.  Let's hope that those who choose to violate the sanctity of this wonderful game, will decide to take their immaturity somewhere else and let those who appreciate and respect the game alone to continue enjoying the game as it was truly meant to be enjoyed, with etiquette and respect.

Lee Trevino was/is a chatter and the game is better for it.  Jack Nicklaus was/is not a chatter and the game is better for it.

    Tiger Woods swears....I've heard it!

I figure the only way to intimidate somebody is be a better golfer than they and make better shots.  If they want to chat, I'll chat.  If  they don't? I'll be quiet.

But always I'll do my best to win.

Your points are well taken and I agree, etiquette does indeed play a major roll in the game.  In what other game are you resposible as an individual to be on your honor and enforce the rules?

    Pete

I agree with dpatton as well.  Though I am no one special and my thoughts only matter to me I am sure, etiquette and supreme sportsmanship are the things that separate golf from all other sports.  I so wish that folks here on this site would keep that in mind.  Most folks do, I have met some very nice people, who compliment each other on the good shots and encourage on the bad.  Who don't quit just because they are having a bad round.  I have been blessed with playing with folks like that for the most part and I am always willing to play with anyone, wether they are better than me or not!  Keep up the exceelnet work WGT, I know this will get better as time goes on and I am looking forward to it....... peace

at the end of the match I would like for the program to show the avatars shaking hands. Fortunately I have not come across the behavior that you are describing, but it has no place in the game. I just got done playing a match with an opponent who is far better than I am, but it was fun. Compliments to each other and encouraging words. Would have loved to tell him gg, but system shuts the chat part down when match has ended. If the avatars would shake hands, that would give an opportunity to give the congrats.

I usually thank everyone on the next to last hole so I can concentrate on hitting good shots on the last hole.
