Search for Fringe Shot advice...

  Mr search window has disappeared !  Anyway, I just played Cabo for the 1st time and 2 times I ended up hitting out of the greenside fringe, the 1st time I had about 10 feet of fringe and 15 feet of green.  I putted it for 25 feet and only went 9 feet.  The 2nd time I had 5 feet of fringe and 20 feet of green.  I chipped for 23 feet and it went over 30.  ????  How does one best play from several feet of fringe?

  There is a bug with the search window so its gone for now.. When dealing with fringe i only putt it if there is only a foot or 2 of fringe to navigate thru and the putt is relatively straight. In most cases i will use the pitch option, or a  flop if there is significant break. Cabo can be a a lot of fun but you gotta be careful not to leave yourself in some bad spots where even a  par can be a challenge.

  p.s. when choosing to putt from the fringe u must add distance to account for the fringe slowing down your putt

  To start with don't putt.

  Hopefully you will get someone who is better than me at it to give you some tips, but I only ever putt from the fringe if I'm inside 15ft and there is no more than 1ft of fringe to navigate. 

  My most lofted wedge has 7yrd max chip distance, so if I'm somewhere around that I will chip with about 3/4 backspin and try and read it like a putt for roughly half the distance.

  Otherwise I will pitch or flop with full backspin and usually it works out that the last 1-2 yards will roll, depending on the green slope at the landing area.

  The simple rule is practice and remember, or make notes, for next time.

  25 feet = 9 yard wedge flop with 25% back spin

  You chip you has break to worry you, you flop you straight there.

  I use the flop when there's a significant amount of fringe to get through.

  Choose the chip shot and reverse the view. Move the target 1 full grid square to the right (as viewed) for every 10 yards of distance, compensating for higher winds. Switch to the flop shot, subtract 15% of the distance for your power and try to ding it.

  I use full backspin on most shots, so I have to overhit by a couple feet because of the spin I get wih my wedges. Experiment with different bakspins to see what works best for you.

  I never putt from fringe.  I find that chipping or pitching gives me the most consistancy in controlling the distance.

  If I can use my 50 yds wedge I flop it when distance is over 10 yds.... full bs and exact distance normally leaves me within 2 yds... or less.. for short putts I normally use the putter, and again, if wide green, flop then..

  i never putt from fringe i use chip or flop mostly the flop though its to hard to judge putts from fringe safer with flop or chips.

  I have putted from the fringe and got birdies; however, I use my 50 yd wedge to chip in for birdies;  Experimentation is best and you will get the hang of it.
