It really has little to do with hitting dings.  I've had some great rounds where I ding  40% of shots.  I also have crappy rounds where I ding 90% of them.  On every shot there is a correct side of the ding to miss on, that is huge to minimize your mistakes to still leave decent opportunities.  Also it helps if you are always choosing the best option for each shot.  Almost all shots inside 100 yards have multiple options, and people (middle of the road masters) very very often do not choose the correct one.

And congrats on 500 btw :)

To add to bollies sage advice, every hole has a spot where you want to be and where you do not want to be.

Sometimes if I have 85 left to the hole I might hit 78 ts, and be 10ft short, than choke on 95, and be little long.

Bollie and most other top players can tell you where you want to be and most of all not want to be on every hole.

Personally, I would prefer what Tibbets would have to say. But he would never be arrogant enough to do so.

I loved playing with Tibb and enjoyed his contributions in the forums, but to say he was not one of the most arrogant forum posters ever would be completely false.  He did proclaim himself the sites best player when the poster above me had the same quality of results.

    Sorry to sidetrack thread!

And Icon couldn't carry my bag!  Next?

If I may chime in with the previous experts, leave is key, and putting skill gets you out of trouble when you don't end up where you want to.  Check out the putting stats of each of the good players on this thread vs. the averages for most masters.  Makes a huge difference.  Practice, practice, practice - knowing the breaks of the greens inside out, and, as Jake said in another thread, knowing where breaks are that aren't reflected in the grid!

Icon, you're still my choice to putt if my credits are on the line!
