Just a small correction, Chinese people read Chinese script left to right same as we read western script. It is only the traditional Chinese writings of over 100 years ago (which only about 1% of the Chinese can now read) that is written vertically. Although that said, it would be just as easy for them to read 'modern' Chinese vertically as horizontally just that the modern computer age has accelerated the move to horizontal writing.
