I have searched through 8-10 pages and absorbed everything I can find on wedges. By the way, is there a "SEARCH TOOL" I'm missing?

I could use some advice on wedges. The G20 iron set PW is rated 115yds. The Ping wedges at 200cr/each look mighty tempting. The forum favorites seem to be the Clevelands and TaylorMade ATV's, both at 495cr/each.

Seeing how I've managed this far with the starter wedges, which 99.9% of the players rate as crappy clubs, I'm thinking the route to go is:

    Remove Hybrid from bag;

PW =          115yds         Included in iron set

    Ping 52* = 100yds        200cr

    Ping 58* = 85yds          200cr

    Ping 60* = 75yds          200cr

    TM    64* = 50yds          495cr

The above opinion is based on the great and informative information I've read in other posts, mainly from Alcaucin & Barbarella. Again, even with the high level of competition here, the many that freely share experience and advice is very much appreciated and what makes this site special.

    On another note:

I have no clue as far as a putter. I think I can wait, earn credits, then figure out a putter. I hope that by now having a driver and quality wedges, I hopefully can stick the ball closer to the cup, and having used the Starter putter my entire time here at WGT, can make do. All opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Everyone has their favourites, personally I'm waiting to get the Cleveland set 56, 60 and 64, no room or need for four wedges and the PW.

One thing I will advise is whatever you go for, get a set where all the speeds are the same, i.e. ALL your club speeds are the same, from your driver to your 64 wedge, it should make hitting the ding a lot easier.

    Thanks for the mention :)

Are you thinking of going with 4 wedges? If so you'll have to remove your 3 wood as well. I know of people (YJ) who did this successfully.

The best piece of advice I was given on WGT was learn and know your clubs, so sticking with the starter putter should give an advantage as you'll know it very well.

It's just a matter of personal preference , the 200cr Ping wedges are good , i recently bought the level 86 TM ATV wedge and to be honest i think the Pings are better . Mind you i also still play with a 60 degree starter wedge which i keep trying to change but don't as i love it around the green , as i said  , personal preference and trial and error are the only way to know what's best for you .

    Oops. I guess I have to go with the 115yd PW, Ping 58* 85yd, & TM ATV 64* 50yd.

I'm currently using Starter 50,70,90. I like this spread. The 115PW messes me up. I did not think this through. Not quite like real life.

Don't be afraid to mix up your wedges a little. Be sure to have an equal distance between the three. If you use them correctly, it could almost be as if you had six wedges (that's if you use the punch shot to your advantage).

I suggest to you a 100, 75, & 50 yd wedge combination. To me, ATV's or Clevelands are the ways to go. The are a few players that use ping wedges too. Just test a couple out, and find out what works best for you.

By the way, remove your hybrid. There's nothing extra your hybrid does that your 3 iron can do. Get three wedges and learn them well, and your short game will see improvement.

    Agreed Buggyyy!

3 wedges & drop the hybrid (but don't sell it too soon)!

The choice of distances should be off your current PW (as you did) or off the set you want to get later (if you know already).

The choice of brand is quite free because (on paper) the meter speeds are close to each other yet different to most iron meter speeds.

I'd say, take the best you want to afford, by hearsay Clevies, ATVs and Pings in that sequence.

Why keep the hybrid in the garage?

I've used three wedges (50, 77, 98 yds Z-Satins (discontinued)) for the longest time. Yet as a new Legend with second-to-best clubs (G20s instead of R11), I dropped the 98 yds wedge for a comeback of the hybrid. This comes quite handy on a few long holes now.

    Edit: Putter...

Quite a few ppl use their Starter putter for a long time. IMHO it's the best club in that set.

Alas, custom putters have more scales (e.g. Taylormade Rossa: 15 / 30 / 60 / 90 / 150 / 300 ft) and are more balanced (= precise) for long putts (50 ft +). This might make it worth a try.

There are putters for "ding" players (Nike...) and those for "non-ding" players (Rossa for example). Select in dependence of your style.

BTW: The Spider putter has less scales than the Rossa - one good reason not to choose it IMHO.

I don't understand why you folks are so hard on the Pings ranking them 3rd.

One of the top players ( Priestess ) of this game who finishes near the top in all the CTTH tournaments and others uses them. So there must be something to them.

It just depends on the player. The player makes the equipment.
