Hi guys had an idea don't know if its good or stupid. buts its kind of how I am putting with decent results, but I am not doing it in a scientific way just guessing.

    Here is the idea.

Your have a putt it go's through 5 boxs, so i move it 5 increments.

each box has a different speed (the dot moving along the line) each speed means the increment move is a different size.

so for example there is 5 speeds of dots, 1 slowest then moving up till 5 is fast

1 would move the increment say 3mm from the whole, where 5 would be a hole witdh

i just have to figure out the speed per movment.

what you think? good stupid? worth it?

It's not as easy as that - so no, I don't think it's a great idea.

Some breaks go one way, then the other. In some situations it would be virtually impossible to use a formular for it.

Also, the harder you hit the ball the less is will be effected by a left or right break. Also the greens are different speeds at different tiers which again will effect the amount it breaks. Also some greens just play faster than others. I find on Olympic particularly they seem to play at very varied speeds.

I think the only way you can do it fairly (exluding hacks which I am sure exist) is with experience. Also how would you measure the speed of the dot?

Also if you are playing in a group you have time limit, a long putt would potentially take a while to work out even if you did have a good formula for it.

well the speed of the dot id measure using a stop watch how long it takes to complete the line. I dunno i think there maybe somthing in it as this game to me seems allot about maths.

    but thanks for the reply

Josh, your efforts to improve are commendable. Somewhere in this game tips section, there is an in depth description of the very method you suggest. Timing the speed of dots, adjusting your aim for each square, etc. I can't for the life of me remember what the title was, but if you look through every page and check out things with putting in the title you will find it.

It was an impressively detailed essay on the method, though too time-consuming for me to ever try. If you want to formalise your putting method, and don't mind taking minutes rather than seconds to figure out a putt, then look it up.

It is, but math won't ever get you to hole every putt..still need to have putted the same putt many 10s of times.

Like Fmag says, search for THAT thread, seems from memory that you'll find it helpful as it seems you on the same wavelength in terms of putting ideology.

I use a very quick visual version of G0ld's formula (without measuring speed of lines). They key to that formula is the factor. Has improved my putting a lot.

thanks allot magnets can i ask you a question when you shoot your low scores is it normally because your approach shots are mostly within 5 feet and you tap them in, or do you make allot of putts over 10 feet?

well looking at his putting stats it seems to work for him, seems complicated but if every thing was easy we would all do it

All I do is guess work, and It hasn't let me down yet.  You have to remember that on some holes the break doesn't effect the shot as much as you expect and vice versa, and some holes have "fake breaks" the more you play holes the more you remember how you putted It last time.  Its got to a point with me now that I get annoyed with myself If i miss 12 to 15 footers the same as I would by missing a 5 footer.  Its more practice than formula (for me anyway)
