Joshnosh:
thanks allot magnets can i ask you a question when you shoot your low scores is it normally because your approach shots are mostly within 5 feet and you tap them in, or do you make allot of putts over 10 feet?
A bit of both Josh. When you get to L90 for the R11 irons, and you figure out their distances and how they play in the wind, most of your dinged shots will go within 5 feet. A slightly missed ding will go about 3 yds off line. So for me, a really good round where every hole is a birdie, will be a lot of dings with easy putts, plus a few missed dings with rescue 10 footers.
I putt by eye, trying to imagine the roll of the putts across the breaks until I can't visualise it missing one side or the other. To successfully imagine the roll of the putt is just based on experience, by playing a lot. You will get a lot better at putting when you get to L90, because you will get a lot more practice inside the crucial 10 foot range. That's partly why, in another thread, I suggested levelling up as quickly as possible rather than using your credits for max irons.
I finally played the 'perfect' round last night. -10 for 9 holes at Oakmont on Championship greens. Every hole within 4 feet, apart from 2 rescue 10 footers, and a holed second shot for eagle on no. 3.
