I can't for the life of me remember what the title was,

    Gold's putting formula.

I think it may still be on his profile page, I seem to recall he stopped playing when TL came out.

    Edit:

I just searched for him (gold) and seems his account is gone.

Yup. That's g0ld with a zero. The slightly less conventional spelling.

The basis of his formula is that there is a factor found by subtracting rise in elevation and adding falls (in reverse to how you find your distance). It works very well for me (and I can putt in under 15 seconds usually!).

    Joshnosh:

thanks allot magnets can i ask you a question when you shoot your low scores is it normally because your approach shots are mostly within 5 feet and you tap them in, or do you make allot of putts over 10 feet?

A bit of both Josh. When you get to L90 for the R11 irons, and you figure out their distances and how they play in the wind, most of your dinged shots will go within 5 feet. A slightly missed ding will go about 3 yds off line. So for me, a really good round where every hole is a birdie, will be a lot of dings with easy putts, plus a few missed dings with rescue 10 footers.

I putt by eye, trying to imagine the roll of the putts across the breaks until I can't visualise it missing one side or the other. To successfully imagine the roll of the putt is just based on experience, by playing a lot. You will get a lot better at putting when you get to L90, because you will get a lot more practice inside the crucial 10 foot range. That's partly why, in another thread, I suggested levelling up as quickly as possible rather than using your credits for max irons.

I finally played the 'perfect' round last night. -10 for 9 holes at Oakmont on Championship greens. Every hole within 4 feet, apart from 2 rescue 10 footers, and a holed second shot for eagle on no. 3.

tbf most of my approach dings are inside 10 feet the main problem for me is the 250 yard driver i have which leave me long irons to most greens, and i miss allot of putts over 10 feet buy a whisker. oakmont is too long for me cause of this. and i never get on par 5s in 2, so i never get eagles

There aren't any par 5s reachable in 2 on Oakmont from Legend tees (apart from one with a very generous wind).

Level up to 58 as quickly as you can and get the Ping G20 driver, that'll last you all the way up to the higher level G20.

No very generous wind needed. The 4th hole a 603 yrds par five can be done in 2 using the fairway on the right (fairway hole nr 5) Not doable with any headwind but with lowish sidewind or low tailwind it is doable in 2
