155 yards with a 190 yard club, WTF?

  Can someone explain to me how this is even possible? it was on hole 4 at Kiawah Island in a CTTH round, which is challenge 3.

  I hit a 190 yard 5 iron, out of the rough, with backspin, with a 16mph tailwind and the ball still only went 155 yards. I have tried the same shot with a few different clubs with different wind conditions and had the same result. the ball just drops short and ends up in the bunker.

  What the hell is going on?

  Kiawah Island always used to be my favorite course, now in CTTH and 18 hole rounds, I can't seem to hit a decent round.

  you gotta pay attention to the lie , the rough on that hole will swallow up balls ...

  Second cut (or worse) rough is not as predictable as better lies. If you're playing CTTHs, keep notes until you get it dialed in. Over a half-dozen or dozen tries the wind and deviation will average out and you'll know what to shoot for. Don't let any single bad shot change your mind, once you have the number, because deviation and wind variation is always there to bite you in the butt.
