wrong, you can have Cleveland wedges using a starter ball and get 0 spin.
you do need SPIN balls and you do need better than starter equipment Wedges.
Wedges should be any players first club purchase, you need to get close to the pin for some consistent short putting.
However, wedges alone wityhout a GI ball as a minimum, wont have much effect.

I avoid 'D' balls - distance balls. Their extra distance isnt refelcted in the caddy and they usually have less spin. Its not distance you want, its control.
