AVG works for me. They hog resources but not too bad for free. It doesn't cause issues for me at all in the game. Just don't get caught in an automatic update.  :-)

Panda Cloud is free and light on resources. It operates in the cloud not really on the machine.

I pay for mine (Trend Micro) but Microsoft Security Essentials is good for a freebie. Also, your cable company may provide a good one at no charge to you. Time Warner is currently providing McAfee, I believe (It used to be something else).

As for cpu usage, just make sure it isn't scanning while you're playing.

A lot of software, even non-malicious software, likes to have something running in the background on the theory that they can then load faster or otherwise improve your performance. Generally speaking, that's a BAD idea. There are a number of free tools available that will get rid of these jerks.

Hi Lonnie, I use the Microsoft Security and is free. I have no problems with it and ensure I dont scan while playing. Yes it runs in the background but I have had no problems (and no problems with Virus's either).

The svhost.exe is to do with Microsoft but I read ages ago that it is to do with windows and is a dynamic-link libraries - something to do with dll files not being executable. I am sure you can kill most of those processes and will not affect playing this game. but would just be a tempory measure as next time you boot up and they need to run they will be there.

In my 20 years of computer experience I've found the free protection works as well or better than most pay garbage, norton and mcafee both suck,,,,,,go to "downloads.com" and download any of their free security ..I use "Adaware","Malwarebytes""AVG",and "Winpatrol"all are free and I haven't had an issue with any kind of bug virus, worm,or malware of any kind in more than five years........non of them run in the background unless you allow it, except Winpatrol and you want that on all the time,I scan with the others about once a week....
