Does anyone have any suggestions on hitting the ball from the rough? Whenever I miss the fairway and wind up in the rough my second shot doesn't go very far at all no matter what club I use. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Try using a punch shot, they will go close to the punch rated distance, unless of course your in deep rough, in which case play for the middle of a nearish fairway.

Good advise from ChinaJohn, try using punch instead of a full shot.  The starters clubs are not very forgiving from the rough so play smart and try not to get too greedy. If the lie is 40%+ make your goal to make the fairway as you have a better chance of salvaging the hole.

Apart from what has already been said, I had a long winded reply about first and second cuts and the difference  from course to course in 30 / 40 / 50 % etc

But probably the best advice is to use backspin on most drives and try to go for position rather than length..5 yrds further from the hole on the fairway is still a birdie chance...5 yrds closer  to the hole in 30 / 40% is likely going to leave you struggling for par....

    Course management is key.
