Corwyn: ... and also, whether you know if the 'return to saved/disconnected game' bug (which left players unable to see the uneven lie grid any more) has now been fixed?
^ This is a must fix. The entire UL idea took a bad hit just because of this bug. It just wasn't fair to the players.
Well, I can confirm that the bug appears to have been fixed. I thought, as a community service, I would just go and try it out...
I signed up for the Oakmont Front9 ReadyGo (#46462), played first 6 holes (remarkably in -2!), then deliberately Saved and Quit the round on the 7th fairway. I quit the browser, reconnected, and on resuming the game, the lie grid was still there (and it behaved as expected given the slopes on the shot).
On the 9th fairway (still lying -2, btw! ... and still somewhat in shock at how that was possible) I disconnected the internet (without saving the game), and on coming back to WGT, again found I could resume the game and that the lie indicator was still there, and again behaved as expected.
Sadly... my next shot was awful, and a bunker escape from a horrible downhill lie (but that almost caught the right slope) and 3 putts later, I was no longer -2, lol... [to be continued, see below]
gedi83: It's really fun to play Oakmont uneven :) Score -2, good job; score -4, won it. In other words, golf, not a strange game that consists of making dings and landing your ball regularly within 10-15 ft of the flag :)
... but boy, was that fun. Champ speed greens are a blast. My first attempted lag putt on #1 went 30 ft by!!! ... and I got ridiculously lucky with this bad ding miss approach to #5 (not a dart by any means) ... but the rest of it was just like gedi said: golf that feels real; where you've got to think about risk/reward and plan to make GIR in a position where a 2-putt is a realistic possibility, then take the bonuses if you can make a putt.
It looks like -5 will win this particular edition, but anything around par has a good chance of returning its investment.
Give it a try folks! It really is a lot of fun to approach the game in a radically different way.
Finally, thanks WGT! Fixing that bug surely now opens the door for more full-scale official tourneys... what chance the return of the Uneven Lies Invitationals?
