When I first started playing on WGT the weakest part of my game was the short game. The pitching, chipping left a lot to be desired. It has gotten much better with the improved wedges. But if you still struggle with distance control with the pitch chip shot option you might give FULL shot using avatar movements a try.
An avatar movement is the movement the club makes when you initiate the backswing. Every club in the bag has this movement. And IMO it's the way WGT intended the game to be played and calculate power/yardage of clubs. I've never used any type of percentage meter to calculate power. I tried putter pal a couple times and it works. But I'd have to relearn the game and I'm too old for that.
So for those that do use some sort of meter overlay that has percentages, the following will work you just need to make a note of the percentage for that distance.
I use av movements on all three wedges. My 100 yrd wedge will go 91 yrds one av movement down from full. The 80 yrd wedge I can choke down in movements from full power to 1st movement 72 yds, 2nd movement 64 yrds and 3rd movement 55 yrds. Yes, I also use the punch shot on a regular basis too. It just depends of the landing area/course etc.
The TM 50 yrd wedge is the most verstile around the greens though. I can choke it down to 25 yrds. I also use FULL shot with it for chipping by starting my counts when the club is taken away from the ball and count av movements going up.
I have it down to a tee. Assuming no elevation changes between me and the hole, 3 av movements up with no bs on tourney greens goes 10 yrds 4 av movements up with full bs goes 10 yrds.
The only time I don't use FULL shot is if I use PITCH mode with my TM 50 yrd wedge on flat greens where I can control the run out. But honestly the distance is sketchy. It's rated for 13 yrds in pitch mode but with no bs on tourney greens it will pitch 18yrds. I also use my 80 yrd wedge in pitch mode for pitch shots between 25 and 20yrds.
Some may ask why not just use flop since you can control the run out. Flop is great in certain situations. But I honestly hardly every use it unless I have a severely slopping green away from me.
The FULL shot mode with avatar movements allows the ball to run out about 2-3 yrds so you have a much better chance of holing out than you do with flop shots, IMO. And since you only get 2-3 yrds run out you don't have as much green to read the break of between your ball and the hole if you were to use PITCH mode. Simple because pitch shots are on the ground longer.
Hopefully this will help newer players who struggle with distance control on PITCH and CHIP mode. I know I did 3 years ago when I started playing and I'm still using the same method I taught myself back then.
It works. We had a CC tourney last year where you had to birdie if you hit the green or if you miss the green you had to par. I think I was 35 for 36 pars and birdies in those 2 rounds. And most were par saves.
