WGT needs to disallow wedges being used in the putting blitz. It's a PUTTING challenge. If I'm going to lose the credits I spend my time getting, I want to lose them to someone better than me at PUTTING, not using a wedge on a green.

You can use any club on any part of the course in real life so why should it be different here?

    Rules FAQ

    Rule 14-1

Using Club other than Putter on Putting Green?

    Q.  Is it permissible to use a club other than a putter to play a stroke on the putting green?

    A.  Yes, the Rules of Golf do not stipulate the type of club that must be used for making a stroke on the putting green or anyplace else on the golf course.

The question is, if they beat you using a wedge, what does that say about your putting?? Improve your putting and this would be a moot point.

...Cause if in real life, they had a putting tournament, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't allow wedges.

Yes, I know you're allowed to legally use it during a round, but during a putting specific tourny?

So why use a wedge if you can beat me with a putter?

I think the OP makes a valid point, yes I know the rules of golf allow for any club to be used on the green although I believe this is because in the old days balls were not lifted and marked with ball markers so if your opponent's ball was in direct line between your ball and the hole you were 'stymied' so you either had to hit around it or over it.

Most definitions of the word 'Putt' state "to strike (a golf ball) gently so as to make it roll along the green into the hole"

And the Scottish origin of the word states "...literally, shove, gentle push"

In RL it is possible to use a wedge to putt by striking the ball just above center so that it does not lift off the ground but rolls along the green... in this virtual game however the wedge shot always lifts off the ground hence it cannot be described as a putting stroke.

In this particular case as it is a PUTTING competition I agree with the OP that only a PUTTER should be used.

Just my opinion but I would like to hear what the makers of this game think about the issue?

If the rule allow's it for all; then no problem with me. In real life golf, you would or can use wedges, highbred etc., in certain situation around the green, which is allowed. This game allows it so why not? Like ZioMio stated; by the international rules of golf, yes it may be used. As Pro Golfers do, use the rules to get a foot up. It is not cheating on the rules, it is knowing the rules, and utilizing all shots and the rules allowed. Now if it was stopped, I don't care. I will play it like everyone else (the rules are the same for everyone).

I play that putting course with a friend that usually kicks my a$$. Sometimes she putts every shot and sometimes uses the wedge on every hole. I admire that she has the skill and talent to master both techniques. Every once in awhile I do win and I mix the putter and wedge shots too. It's my personal choice and yes..... it is allowed.

The game is suppose to be fun, and it's a blast to get a heartbeat on #8 with a PW.  ;)

And BTW for all the naysayers, I don't wedge 'em all. K   :)
