And again, *I* say, if you have to use a wedge, what does that say about your putting?

RChapman; take a look at my putting stats, Hmmmm. I have look at yours, not to be confrontational but to see if your statement "holds water".

Rules are rules, there are out there for everyone to follow. This is true with the USGA, you must follow the rules but some times to some people the rules are not right or not fair (putting someone in a good or bad situation, i.e.: Dustin Johnson's bunker shot his honesty cost him a Tournament, bravo by the way for him). I say relax and have fun use what is allowed, learn as many different shots as you can.

Wgt tried to stop this when they took away spin on the green with wedges. The wedge on the green was a no skill shot. Why putt 250 feet when I hit a wedge close? I think ppl just let it roll out now wgt. Folks are always gonna look for an edge. Ppl use to putt with driver to keep putting average low. They are always gonna go for the easy way out. FG

..Cause if in real life, they had a putting tournament, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't allow wedges

Exactly, I am sure you only bring one club to a putting tournament.

It is a bit pity if wedges are allowed since the most interesting putts are those who look impossible. No fun if you know your competitors just brought out the wedge and got within 3ft

WGT needs to disallow wedges being used in the putting blitz. It's a PUTTING challenge. If I'm going to lose the credits I spend my time getting, I want to lose them to someone better than me at PUTTING, not using a wedge on a green.

    2 thoughts here:

    1. PGA rules allow any club  on a green period!.....For people to say differenty, they should learn the rules before they comment!

    2. Here's the biggest issue! How HARD is it to practice a particular challenge putt a 1000 times , take notes then go and play an opponent and get it close!...sheesh!!

Seems  worse that the auto ding threads posted in the forums.  A REAL putting challenge would be a random long putt that is different each time you log on!    THEN we see who is the best putter.....!!

Do PGA have putting challenges? I did not know. And in those challenges, the players are allowed to use wedges?

Never saw one on the PGA tour.  However, the rules would not change even if they did!

Why would you think that? The name of the game is in the name. Of the game. If you have a putting competition, you make rules for that competition and are in no way forced to adhere any other rules whatsoever. The sad thing with wedges allowed is that the harder they set the course, the less people will putt. That kind of defies the whole idea with putting competition.

So if WGT would like to forbid wedges, they can

For now the rules of golf allow it. If some one does not like that they should either keep their own council during multi player games or not enter!

As said - putting championships are a competition that can have it's own rules. WGT are in power of setting whatever rules they like. If we want the rule "only club allowed is the putter", they could write that rule into the game and there would be no complaints from the PGA tour, no complaints from lawyers.

The question that you should concentrate on is: Do we want to be able to use other clubs than the putter in putting competitions? The question if it is allowed on the PGA tour or not is irrelevant since they do not have that kind of competitions.

As I said earlier - if we are allowed to use wedges, it makes no sense for those that create the competition courses to make any interesting scenarios - if it looks impossible, we just take a wedge, aim for the pin and land within a yard. If it is single play on a unique coarse, we would often have no choice but to use the wedge if we want to be competitive. That, IMO, defies the whole idea of that kind of competition.
