L90 R11 Irons - 8 iron

  Just got this new set and not professing to be any great shakes at the game. just played a round and OK ding missed shots but like way way short twice and OK once????? Just bedding in with the irons and just as I thought I was starting to get the basics sussed then this! 

  Had a quick flick through the forums and not seen this discussed so assume all me, and I just need carry on! Accept could easily be just me as only had them a day but seemed weird.  Also noticed the PW can play a little short sometimes with FBS?????  Way early for me to really know but initial thoughts..........

  Any thoughts from people that I know understand all this better??????

  EDIT Bigtime : Got my clubs mixed up!

  The 8 iron is screwed up and fully agree with you. I neveruse 100% on that club as it give to inconsitant of a result. Without full power though it is a consistant club. Practice makes perfect. But most 8 Iron haveproblems with this in most sets.

  only been playin' with 'em a few days now, but the 8 iron is a bit wonky .. it's been mentioned in the forums before a number of times ..

  so far i find it plays long with backspin on a downwind shot .. headwind shots seem ok so far .. but am still sussing them out though

  Ahhhhh, our infamous mystery club, the R11 8i :-)

  With fbs this club can land ANYWHERE from 144-155 (I have it charted at 148 with fbs from the f/way and that is mostly reliable). It seems to be unaffected by wind at times too lol and does tend to leave many of us confused, there have been 100's of posts about it, amazed you couldnt find any.

  I have a full yardage chart matched with callie z balls that are 99% accurate (all things considered), I've got 'em covered from tee and f/way with fbs and without any spin, I have wind calculator etc too for this club/ball combo.

  Thanks and thanks Lazard for the kind offer - friend request sent.  I had the L79 Bladez before and good as they were I never made any real attempt to get intimate with them as always looked on them as interim.  These I want to make a concerted effort to really understand.................Thanks again! Guess I never looked as hard as I should have with all the posts..............glad not just me though!

  115 yards before wind and elevation with the Callaway (s) ball.

  simple really. Just don't use full B/S and 100% power together. Either one by themselves is fine but put the 2 together and you can get strange results.

  the 8 iron is very dodgy for sure the 9 irons not gr8 either both very dodgy. the pw you will get used to its a gr8 iron once u get it dialled in and its very reliable.

  That 8 iron always has a fun surprise for ya,

  With top lvl nikes and fbs i have it mapped at 151. Like liz said it can go anywhere between 146 and 155. And unlike any other clubs it can also take of a few yards when using less spin. I always have a feeling WGT has upped the VEM on this club. Sometimes i even use a choked 7 iron or no spin on my 9iron so i do not have to use my 8iron.

  That's what I do, I never use the 8i with fbs in a full shot anyway due to its erratic nature but depending on yardage, I'll rather go choked 7i or top spin a 9i and have a better chance at knowing where I am gonna land.

  The 8i is unreliable to put it mildly :-)

  Funnily enough I find it deadly accurate according to my charts off the tee but not from the fairway. I dont trust it from the f/way lol
