How about stroke multiplay tournaments? And perhaps offer higher prizes for it.
Here is why:
1. I am tired of playing alone. These days, I am so bored that i don't concetrate on hitting the best shot/lowest score but just sometimes to do while I take a break from studying...
2. Most of my friends play along 20 rounds day
3. When they do play multi, it's a lot less caring than single player
4. It will promote multiplay and everyone knows it's harder generally, but still possible to score low
