    Mushy01:

ATV's ..Too little spin ? .... so therefore buy Clevelands, BUT don't use full backspin hmmmmm.

The point is that you can use the backspin when you need it, e.g. sand shots, deep rough shots and punch shots with tail wind.

I hardly every used back spin with clevelands. The 65 and 80 stop one yard or less most of the time. Tried the atv's during free weekend and they are not as accurate and will not stop as good as clevelands. But to everyone there own.

Got the Clevelands and the ATVs - I use the ATVs - find them more accurate and forgiving on all shots - full, punch, flop and chip.  Just my opinion.

I also have both in 56 and 60 degree.  (My 64 is always a lvl 39 ATV.)  I feel both have their pluses and minus' and you adapt.  For me, the meter speed mattered most.  When I carried G20 irons I used ATV.  I switched to R11 irons and now prefer the Clevelands.

I have to agree with Sue here. I have the Cleves but tried the ATV's during the rental weekend. I'm not a good player but found ATV's more accurate as you don't have to worry about backspin so much.

With Cleves, allow for backspin even with starter balls which I use mainly. Dot in middle over 50-80 yards onto green can still spin back 1-3 yards or more. I found the ATV's excellent the short time I used them and will probably buy them. I haven't had any new 'toys' for a wee while.....lol....

Both sets have their advantages and I would suggest it depends on the ball used and whether you want so much backspin with Cleves which can be useful on certain holes or the forgiveness and slower meter of the ATV's. Difficult choice I admit, but I wish you well whatever you choose.

I have played with both and have the Cleveland 56, 60 and 64 in my bag.  For those who have a hybrid in your bag, ditch it and get the fourth wedge instead (I count the PW as a wedge so technically I believe in the four wedge approach).  The Cleveland is a very versatile wedge.  On full shots or mostly full, I rarely use any spin and get the distance that is advertised.  On punch shots no spin or just a touch is needed to make then check after one bounce.  If you have the need to bring the ball back, the spin gives you the option, for example on #2 at STA, if you have a 90 yard shot to that front pin, you can play it long to where the green is flat and spin it back to the hill instead of trying to land short and let it roll out.

The Clevelands are great at letting you extend their distance by the use of t/s as well.  I can get the 100 yard wedge to go 105 with t/s.  It takes some getting used to but for what I use these wedges for I'm sold on the Cleveland version.  I suggest that you pick them up at the next free rental weekend and try both of these.

I use the ATVs over the Clevelands for a couple of reasons.

Firstly I have always preferred the 100, 75, 50 set up over the 100, 80, 60. I feel that set up covers the all yardages from 105 yards down to zero with full and punch shots and variance in spin.

The second reason I use them is that I feel the spin control is much easier to learn and become proficient with. I particularly like the way they play when pitching and as a result always feel I have a good chance of holing out from just off the green.

Clevelands are probably a percentage more accurate and have more spin but I found them much more difficult for nailing down my distances and spin control.

I use the Cleveland 60 degree 80 yard and the 64 degree 60 yard but never liked the 56 degree 100 yard so I use either the 54 degree 105 Ping W or the 54 degree 110 yard Z-Satin as my third wedge. Around the green the 64 degree is super accurate. I will hole out 5 or 6 chips pitches and flops with it every week.

And as far as the ATV's are concerned I found them not to be even as good as the Z-Satins that they replaced.
