There are holes you cannot reach with the beginner clubs in par--that' s not right. .All of you that "live" on this game and spend money purchasing this or that should be less critical and more helpful. There are a lot of good tips in  the forums, but there is a lot of condescension too. We all want to have fun and do, even if it's at different levels.

He's got a point here you know...

Yes, he/she does but given the limitations of the individual commitment what becomes fair?

What is frustrating about the clubs is that they consistantly hit shorter than they should by 10-15 yards. Even considering the wind, (which is an issue for another post), the clubs hit short.

    Tracy,

Be sure that you are considering the elevation of the green.  I have a formula that works most times for me...3 feet in elevation = 1 yard in distance.  So 24 feet elevated adds roughly 8 yards in distance.  Add in a 7 MPH head wind and you probably want to club up 10-12 yards.  Example: 129 yards out, 24 feet elevated green, 7 MPH head wind...I'm grabbing a club that hits around 145 yards and putting a little spin on it. (You will see this a lot at Bethpage).

    Good Golfing,

Also many fail to understand this point and learn to develop their short game*. To often is the case that many new players play only Kiawah or Saint Andrews because of this. The develop a low average to quickly and then scream like a raped ape on the forum because they now think the game sucks and a few other choice words. All to often you can go and viewt their approach and chipping stats and quickly see this. Bottom line, develop your short game and putting. The rest will come

Not being able to reach certain greens in regulation means you have to manage your game to combat this. Instead of trying something you know won't work try laying up and playing for par. Now, when you lay up, chose the distance away from the hole that you are comfortable with and play to that spot.

Amen. This is particularly true at Bethpage, where if you cannot reach the green, the smart play is to lay up to the end of the fairway. You can then hit a wedge close to the pin and make par. Took a while to figure this out, because the initial impulse is to try to get as much distance as possible from wherever you are and then deal with the next shot when you get there.

The overall concept is called Course Management.

As for the surveys, for starters they are plastered all over the site in the headers (ads.) In fact, there is one right now that says EARN WGT CREDITS IN FUN WAYS at the top of my page now. Otherwise, you can see them here

I still a yet have "qualified" for one of their surveys.

Folks also need to realize that shorter clubs have higher loft...therefore will handle an elevated green with less loss of distance.  That is why you can have a harder time reaching an elevated green with a 3 iron from 180...coming up 15 yards short on a 24 foot elevation...but get within 10 feet from 70 yards with a short iron...loft of the club makes it easier to handle elevation...something we all need to factor in.
